Both are superb cars - bought a 570 Spider - has to be a Spider in my opinion.

Reason I bought a 570?

Newer
Cheaper extended warranty
Less complicated, - dont understand requirement for trick suspension.
Subjective- better looking.

Fast enough for me. smile

I don’t think that you can go wrong with either, really. They’re both excellent cars, so it just comes down to which one floats your boat.

Just at the end of the very same debate with myself !! I love all of the McLarens, but I really want a Spider and the best one that I could stretch to would be a 650s. The air brake and the ability to drop the tonneau window clinched it. I also think in terms of depreciation, it’s a good time to get any 650s. I just need to get the right offer for my current car - Alfa 4c Spider - carbon tub!!! and find the right 650s to buy.
Can’t bloody wait!!!
I had the 50th anniversary Spider and rate them very highly if a bit noisy, all the known steering issues can be fixed. I remember some fabulous drives around Europe in mine, they really are an event to drive.
I moved to a 570S and now a 600LT, they are on another level but the Alfa is much more fun and driveable on our roads. After the honeymoon period with both I miss the ability to wring the Alfa's engine out on a regular basis and push close to it's handling limits on the road, the McLaren's are just too bloody quick to do this responsibly on our crowded tarmac. The Alfa is greatly missed and I'd have another in a heartbeat.

I could so keep mine. It’s a really close call but I’m very close to a 650s Spider purchase. But part of me won’t be disappointed if it doesn’t come off and I get to keep my beloved Alfa...

Have been monitoring the thread for some time, and very grateful for some useful advice. I think the only way to know is to drive the two models for a good hour or so - impossible in lockdown, and probably difficult to organise in any case. I'm going to enquire over a few and see if I can push my luck!

The general consensus is both are epic cars, and if it's short term ownership "experience" rather than a more usable B road weapon (maybe 4C) is order of the day, maybe a 650S is the way to go. Will keep you updates as the hunt continues!

That is very nice, unusual to see with red seats. You won't look back now you've got that, they are fantastic cars and the journey starts today for you.
Did you get it inspected prior to agreeing the purchase?

Nope - it’s bought from a reputable dealer with Mc warranty.

Thank you - it will be the first time I’ve ever sat in a McLaren or seen one other than on the road and that was once!! It did come from McGlasgow. I’m very happy with the price I paid having researched them for months. It arrives next Wednesday...

Some great roads around you to drive it on as well. Looks like you were the same position as me, wanting one but not driven one - however, whilst I'm still dithering as I've never sat in one let alone driven one, you've gone ahead - congrats. Am sure you'll love it. If you're willing to give a hint as to year, mileage and price, it'd help my searches too - feel free to ignore that request, or pm/email the info if preferred.....
