I don't think you can go far wrong with a 540/570/650 at current prices, assuming you do the correct checks and get a good one with a warranty.

Looks are a personal preference, but lets be honest they look very similar. You are getting a genuine supercar for almost super saloon money just now.

Running cost wise, warranty is more expensive on the super series (£2.8k per year for sports, £5k (?) for the super). Servicing, I have paid £800 minor and £1200 major for my 540C. I am considering swapping mine for something else, but its very difficult to change to anything worthy of the upgrade, without spending a significant amount of money. A 720S for example would almost be double the price of my 540C value, and I'm just not sure I see the value.
That's a fair call Justin. I've sold my 540C as I got a good offer and the plan was to get a 600LT, 675LT or 720 when a car I liked came up but I'm now of the mind that a 540 or 570 is realistically enough and the others really aren't enough better to justify twice the money! Great cars for sure but not enough better to make me part with the cash currently. In retrospect I possibly should've kept my 540 looking at the rising asking prices but hindsight is a wonderful thing! Currently I'm driving a RAV4 and a Yaris GR but I will get another Maclaren at some point but probably not the ones I originally planned on thumbupbiggrin

Must admit, I was tempted with an offer of £115k for my 2018 570S Spider. I'd only sell if I wasn't bothered about replacing it. Not sure what I'd get otherwise that gives the same bang-for-buck.

Its all relative unless you are just cashing out and not replacing it with something else that's increased in value or cashing out at a peak to sit out until the next trough appears as im sure it will

I missed out on the 650S Spider I mentioned above, but went to see a 2018 570GT today in McLaren Orange and fell in love.

A bit more space inside the GT which suits me at 6ft5, but the GT practicality will suit a drive down to Portugal in October.

Very happy with my first McLaren purchase cool

Car is at GVE in Uxbridge, is 3 years old next month, 5000 miles. It’s being delivered next weekend once it’s had a service at McLaren Ascot.

GVE have an interesting history.

Make 110% sure the car you are buying it's what you think it is - particularly that it is an original UK registered car.

Yes ask to see the log book, service books and spare key, make sure you check it’s not on finance still or waiting to be paid off, with your own hpi check and your good to go enjoy.

Cheers guys… I have the service record, two at McLaren Bristol, it’s due now as it’s 3 years old next month.

Will of course HPI etc before transferring the balance.

Has PPF all over which is a bonus, car is absolutely immaculate.

Perfect choice. I traded my 991 Turbo s which was Porsche approved and they hid issues it had even after the so called 111 point inspection. Traded it after against a 570s in Ventura Orange and to be honest its the best move I ever made. Porsche neglected to tell me my 991 had been tracked and had turbo flutter faulty AOS, stone chips everywhere on the front bonnet lights bumper and oil all over the intercooler hoses etc its now on sale at 90k on Autotrader after they paid 80k at BCA auctions after the Mclaren dealer run it straight to auction.

People asking why anyone would not buy one - currently, it's cos there aren't many around! Spiders in particular are in very short supply, with a premium of almost £10k over prices 3 months ago. I know, as I'm looking hard!!

Full HPI check done.... No finance, no imports, no exports, no write offs, not recorded as stolen... So all good.

Just waiting on it being serviced and MOT'd, then we should be all good to go. Fingers crossed I should have it for the weekend.

Congrats! Are you running it with a McWarranty, or without?

Initially I'm going without... The car is just three years old, and only 5000 miles. There will be some warranty from the supplying dealer which you'd hope will cover any initial issues, after that I will see... If it proves to be problematic I'll put a warranty on it, if not, I'll self-warrant it and just budget £3k a year for maintenance.

I would be a little wary of GVE (they offered me a car first registered outside the UK so early history was suspect) and in particular buying a car that has been listed for sale since 8 December 2020 according to AutoTrader (the date is in the web address when you click on the ad) - there must be a reason for it not selling in 7 months as that is not normal and it looks highly specc'd in a desirable colour - very odd.

I've done as much homework as I can... Full HPI check done, see above. Not an import... No finance... No red flags anywhere.

It's the right car and the right spec for me, so why not go for it.

I think this is right. Various places have various reputations, usually for good reason - but you're buying a car, and not likely to see them again (unless you take it there for servicing). So if it all checks out, then you're good to go. You're not buying a friend.....

My twopennyworth

The 570 is a great looking, great performing, well designed and (relatively) well engineered car .... especially when the price point is taken into consideration S/H.

BUT

My personal experience when looking (at 6 cars in total - youngest an '18 plate) was that they all have either had (or will probably have) issues with corrosion. It was 6 of 6 in the ones I went to view. Admittedly, some do not seen to suffer .... but I do wonder if they have ever been wet or it's just not surfaced yet.

In their defence, Mclaren seem to be very good a dealing with the problem. But quite a few have had several visits to the bodyshop for different panels to be sorted.

I eventually bought a 12c (which can also have problems - though it seems less frequently). If I had to buy another 'Mac (& I certainly would) it would be a 650 or a (budget stretching) 720
