Congrats! Was that the one Scuderia Prestige had for sale?
No, it was McLaren Ascot - I bought it before it was advertised, although it was then advertised for a while.....

Interesting list Sam, it really does represent the incredible value of Mclarens.

Ive got a friend looking for a 488 spider at the moment, twice the price, warranty at £3500 a year and wont consider anything over 5k miles, i would say the average mileage on 570s are 3 times that, i dont see the 488 represents good value at all, especially when you cant use them as your worried about putting more than a 1k miles on them a year.

The non-pista 488s don't seem to have any long-term investment value, so it's puzzling that the owners don't drive them more, unless most owners have a large enough collection to split their mileage across

100% agree what's the point in owning such a car..also I always found the 488 a little bland to look at especially from the rear, Pista better but way more cash. If Ferraris were driven as much as McLarens are would more problems come to the surface with them from use?

This is just mental and makes no sense….. the resale value isn’t that different on a car with 10-20k…. I hammered the miles on my 488 spider, the most enjoyable couple of years I’ve had driving. Basically got about 10k less trade in than if the car had done 10k miles less. This worrying about mileage rubbish just has to stop; what the hell is wrong with people?

50kg more on a sports series spider compared to its coupe derivative , not a massive weight gain but wouldn’t want it strapped round my neck for 24hrs..
It’s like the difference between a full tank of fuel or running on fumes ….

Agreed!

Also the lower mileage cars will likely have more things go wrong with them or could be clocked.

Unless your a collector buying a car to store away somewhere who are the only buyers who should be considering cars with under 5000 miles.

Anyone buying one to enjoy, then ideally buy a car that has averaged 1500-5000 miles per year, cars are designed to be used and not left parked.

Median average advertised mileages for 2016-18 coupes on AT (in descending order)

Model Mileage
Nissan GTR 25,000
Audi R10 Plus 23,000
Porsche 911 Turbo S 19,550
McLaren 570S 17,000
AMG GT R 15,400
Lambo Huracan 13,000
Ferrari 488 9,150

Personally I feel if the enjoyment you get from driving each mile is less than the value lost to depreciation, you've probably bought the wrong car. However I get that there may be other reasons not to drive a car.

Having not driven any of the other cars on the list, I have no idea about the smiles per mile, but I kinda feel like a big thing about super cars are the aesthetic, to me the 570s is the only one that actually looks part.
I’ve never been a huge fan of the lambo wedge style look. It just looks like a doorstop!

I am surprised that the Turbo S numbers are that low though, I would have thought porsche have the least stigma on mileage.

Incidentally if anyone's looking for a car in one of the Volcano colours, there are Red, Orange and Yellow 570Ss on the market currently, Orange and Yellow GTs, and an Orange Spider. More good colours than I've seen for a while I think.

The yellow one looks great but slightly out of my price range. The red one (assume the one recently added) is a 2016, so a little early.

Not seen an napier green ones through?

There are only 3 Napier coupes in the UK apparently, as you know, my old Napier car is available from the current owner......

Napier is a fantastic colour, although I am a little bit biased...

There was a Napier 600LT Spider up at the dealer who must not be named recently, but I haven't seen any 570s advertised in it since I started looking last autumn. Not surprising if there are only three of them! I think Napier looks great, might be worth making enquiries about the one mentioned above?

For another perspective on value, here's median prices for 2016-18 570S coupes compared with median AT asking prices for cars of comparable performance and of the same years, in ascending order of price:

Model Spec 0-100 Median Price
Nissan GTR 6.9 £80k
McLaren 570S S 6.0 £87k
Audi R8 Plus 5.9 £89k
AMG GT R 6.8 £111k
Porsche 911 Turbo S 6.2 £120k
Ferrari 488 GTB 5.9 £165k
Lambo Huracan LP610-4 5.6 £170k

I'm using 0-100mph times just to show that these cars aren't that far apart in a straight line, and thus are reasonable to consider together - obviously there's far more to a car than a single straight line performance metric.

The GTR is obviously good value here, the other outlier is the R8 which seems to turn in quicker times than I'd imagined in Plus guise and is on a par with the McLaren. The other cars are either a bit or a lot more expensive, getting on for double the money for the Italian cars.
(FWIW removing the age restriction to look at all 650S Coupes, they come out at £92k median ask and ~5.6 secs 0-100).

I imagine one could find errors or holes in this dataset, however I do think the underlying point is valid, that the Sports Series represent strikingly good value at current prices for what they offer the driver.
Thanks for the compliation. Throw in the AWD launch of the Huracan, R8, GTR and 911 Turbo S you have an even more compelling case, with only the 488 showing competitive acceleration.
