Yes.

Iris 2 became standard way before 720s - even part way through 12C production I think, but definitely by the time the 650 came out.

Is the sound that comes through on Android Auto (spotify, etc) full OEM quality?

As an update. It looks like I'm handing my 12c back to the dealer I bought it from. The screen died on the way home from collection in September. I spoke to them and they could not have been more helpful, agreed to obviously replace... but...when I had a work window in early Jan, finally got my car to MCL dealer who have now said that they may not have the parts to fix for twelve months...sadly it looks like I'm going to be giving the car back. Absolutely breaks my heart as it is a car that I wanted to add to my collection but still drive! Any ideas as they can't source a working Iris 1 system or an Iris 2 system ...

Morning, I have been waiting for MCL to replace my Iris 1 with an Iris 2 as the screen started blanking out/going grey/turning on and off... still waiting.. does this kit and installation need the Iris 2 screen and everything behind it to work or does it completely replace the system. I take it that I don't lose the original functionality and controls? Sorry for all the questions but I'd like my car back by spring and at this rate it won't be...
Unfortunately it does require the Iris 2 system, I haven t been able to get ahold of an Iris 1 to be able to develop a solution for them!
I take it if the screen doesn't work then the whole system is cooked? Let me call you next week as I really don't want to hand it back.

Aren't they the dealer that went out of biz recently? Regardless, my only concern would be whether that unit can be paired to my car etc. it's a good idea, I just have a sneaky feeling that there is a little more to it. The question out there is... does this make cars with the Iris 1 systems unsellable?

Is the failed Iris the only issue with the car?

If so, why not make supplying dealer repair it?

That’s their obligation.

Really sad to read this ..... give either Thorney or V a call as to if a screen can just be swapped over, if so I am sure one of them will have a screen on the shelf, must be a few around.

The dealer has said that they would replace, they have genuinely been faultless. The problem is the unit itself. I spoke to Thorney and they said that units are hard to swap and program. McLaren have said between 3 months and a year... that probably means never! This is gutting. I wondered about just buying a screen off EBay and just giving it a go. It has to be plug and play but just worried that at best I'll be in the same position once fitted ...

Take the full refund and find another car is my advice, I know it is gutting but another suitable car will come along.

There’s nothing to prevent you agreeing with the supplier to have an independent repair the fault.

You can sell it as a win-win. You get the car fixed for less than they’d have to pay McLaren.

The other alternative is for you to get them to refund to you the cost of having it repaired at McLaren (let’s say it’s £5k). And you get it sorted yourself via an independent.

Depends how good the car is. If it’s a great colour and spec that’s hard to find, I would keep the car and negotiate the refund or indie repair.

Maybe speak directly with a main dealer and ask the question if you source a head / display unit can they programme for you whilst awaiting a new unit.

The car has been with McLaren main dealer for two months. They thought the kit was in stock but when it arrived is was incorrect. They have chased McLaren themselves and sadly they gave me a twelve month window..Thorney didn't touch on sourcing the parts because he was too busy mansplaining to me about how much he knows about McLaren. V Engineering seemed very different and I'm waiting to hear back from them next week. If not, as sad as it is, the car is going back and the hunt for another begins again.

If you've not had use of the car for 2 months plus you shoudl be negotiating a price reduction whetehr they repair it or not.

You've little to lose by negotiating a few £k off the price you paid, then source the repair through an indie for less than that.

Hopefully should have a clearer idea on supply dates tomorrow. I have bought a second hand (working) Iris 1to plug the gap until the 2 is available. If you think about it... if all the cars that have Iris 1 in them and they fail, and, you can't get an Iris 2 ... they could technically become unsellable, and/or written off by insurers or finance companies. If that isn't enough for McLaren to pull their fingers out I don't know what is. I'm hoping that they aren't waiting for another 100 to fail before they order. That truly would suck!
