There is nothing wrong with Alastairs health. He has decided to take some time out, good luck to him. I was at V Engineering yesterday, Paul said Alastair had been there this week.
Good to hear. Unfortunately he will be very much missed in the McLaren world.
Never know, he might get bored enjoying life

I've had 6 McLaren's, all through Alastair, which says a lot. Not sure what to do now, may have to go cold turkey!

I think it needs to be Chuck Norris.
hehe

Been quite a few posting he wasnt quite as good as people are making out..

I found him ok but certainly no better than any other SOR dealer, i wouldn't call him a car dealer unless he buys cars though, more a handler..
Quite a few ? I saw two posts on the FB page both from people who d tried to contact him a month or so before closure, one of them came across as a bit of a weapon.
Never heard one negative thing about him in all the years before that. He was brilliant and patient with me in three visits, and still the same when I rang him to say I d gone a different route, praising the joys of a car I eventually bought.
I dont really do facebook tbh but i’m in a few whatsapp groups, which is where i heard comments.. nobody's perfect i guess..

Like i said, found him ‘ok’, better than others but he wasnt really a dealer as he never owned the cars, never took the risk with his own money, maybe he didnt have any or want to invest his money.

maybe he always intended to get out quickly, which tbh is always the feeling ive had from these kind of traders and why they’re going to be investigated.

Quickly??

His reputation is excellent and it wasn’t earned “quickly”

Didn’t buy through Alastair but he was very generous with his time and knowledge when I visited

I have an SOR scoundrel locally. Alastair has never been accused (AFAIK) of any impropriety whatsoever

One of the very best guys

I wish him every success

I think someone is being purposely provocative and antagonising on this thread.

It's a throw back to the old days when everyone who didn't own a McLaren slagged off the brand.

He has an excellent reputation, I don’t know anyone who thinks poorly of him. Whenever I dealt with him, he was honest, transparent and straightforward, I’m sure the latter would often cost him sales…

He is a top top guy. Outside of V-eng and him, there’s not another none franchise you’d fully back for a purchase . Hopefully he comes back.

He has a very large new build showroom/barn in his land that is now the ultimate man cave if he doesn’t return… had around 15 vehicles in it when I bought mine.

My view of him was that he was passionate of these cars, perhaps almost rose tinted (they are wonderful, and I think so BTW!). I did not find him particularly responsive and a little condescending, but perhaps just me. In any event, that didn't put me off considering him as someone I would use to buy car. Overall, seemed genuinely to want whoever you were to end up with a good car - can't fault that. Good to hear health is good - ultimately, all that matters.
