I have received proposals relating to the extension of my i3 lease. In both cases, if I choose to extend now, the cost of my lease will go up with immediate effect...

To extend by one year (i.e. from 24 months to 36 months)

To extend by two years (i.e. from 24 months to 48 months)

These quotes are only valid for 7 days and, as my lease only expires in September, I don't have to do anything immediately, but I could. I wonder how big a gamble it is to wait until nearer the time and ask for an extension quote again then....?

Here are some sample prices to replace it with a new one today from the same leasing co...

are they getting stronger on the used market then to account for the surge in cost?

No idea.

It is fairly clear that they are selling more new ones now than in previous years.

Wikipedia shows EU sales up from 15k in 2016 to 20.8k in 2017

In lease price terms, the one that comes closest is the Kia Soul EV

Which can be had for a shade under £260pcm on a 3+35

I'm not sure about the i3 specifically , but used ev prices have actually been increasing.

I'm not sure I have seen this in i3's, but it can only help support used values surely.

The residuals have certainly improved! In my own experience it looks about 15-20% in the last 12 months between 17-18 and reading through this thread it seems that some people who bought well would have seen 30-40% from 16-18!

I’m driving into central London everyday and it literally cost me pennies to run it despite parking in Westminster public bays. I replaced my SL63 daily with this and it’s the most frugal decision I’ve very made! I’m keeping mine till the tax incentives evaporate

My i3 is due it’s first service

Anyone has one already? What sort of price should I expect?

I'm not sure, but common advice seems to be that you should get the 3 year service pack (circa £280 I think) as you do save hundreds. I would first check it is still not too late to buy it.

It may be cheaper to buy a service pack which I understand is possible any time before the first service is done.

My i3 has been entirely solar powered since the installation of a Powerwall in May.

Any questions ask away.
("I don't care" is the answer to "how long does it take to pay back")

Well I’m that case you won’t get many questions.
How many solar panels did you need, where did you place them to be unobtrusive, how large and pricey were all the storage batteries?

That sort of stuff

I commend you for doing this and it's something I'd like to do myself (I've also gone with a leccy supplier which is 100% renewable).

Do you have a ballpark figure for installation and then in a way how this might be affecting total TCO / cost per mile?

How many Powerwalls did you go for? I like quite a bit of the software that Tesla has for working out when to store / charge etc.

No definitive price for the service until the key has been read

So I rolled up to a local dealer today for the key to be read

Work needed

- vehicle inspection
- brake fluid change
- micro filter

Price: £300

Said no thanks and came home

The brake fluid change is hilarious. The brakes are used less than other ‘normal’ Cars yet they need to change the fluid every 5 minutes. They just need to find something to do to keep the workshop solvent.

Look at the inspection schedule as well. They even itemise checking valve caps ffs.... talk about scraping the barrel.

As the brakes aren't used much, in fact the fluid change becomes more important because they never get hot enough to drive off and absorbed water

Ok, every two years is an overkill for the UK climate, but it's not something i would suggest skipping!

What about other little shopping cars like aygo,c1 etc that are also not expected to regularly get their brake fluid up past 100 degrees!!! How often are you expected to change their fluid?

It’s a gouge...
