Just putting this out there.

I am a Renault salesman (boo, hiss, how do you sleep at night etc etc)

I am by no means an EV expert but we have sold a few now so I am quite au fait with the range.

Happy to answer any questions/supply pictures of anything anyone may want to know/see.

Cheers!

Welcome and thank you for your offer of assistance.. I'm sure you will be kept busy smile

I would love an EV to get me to work and back. Can't find a waterproof version of the Twizy.. they need to offer doors and I would be more interested.

But they do offer doors - windows too.

Correct. Doors are a factory option and windows are an accessory now. smile

I'm really interested in how things have gone so far with the Renault EV range, and where it might go in the future.

How many have been sold, and is that better or worse than expectations? How are sales split between Twizzy, Zoe, Fluence and the van?

What are the typical buyer profiles? What makes them look at the EVs? Do they come in having already decided they want one, or do they get swayed on the spot?

Do buyers have any reliability issues or post-purchase regrets? Do you get people trading in after a few months for a "conventional" vehicle because they can't get on with the EV stuff, or do they tend to stick with it?

That sort of thing...

Quite a few questions! Some are way out of my knowledge but I will try my best!

How many have been sold, and is that better or worse than expectations? I don't have exact numbers in the UK, I will see if I can get some, but I know from press releases in the public that Renault-Nissan has fallen short of their predicted numbers across Europe. How that pans out in the future I don't know.

How are sales split between Twizzy, Zoe, Fluence and the van?
Again, I don't have the numbers, but in the UK I would say the number of Twizy/Fluence/Van sold is very small. ZOE is the focus of EV in the marketplace. We as a dealer have sold 23 ZOE and we have a very small market in a very rural place so not the target market at all!

What are the typical buyer profiles? What makes them look at the EVs? Do they come in having already decided they want one, or do they get swayed on the spot?

IMO the buyer profiles are older married couples, those who have already embraced newer technologies. I know that 3 of my customers have invested heavily in Solar panels, one has a windmill. They know about the tech, they know about the limitations and have done plenty of research before even coming into the showroom, we haven't 'sold' a single ZOE to a person just walking in asking about our range, they have all been sold to people coming in looking at EV specifically. We are always completely upfront with people who come in and wouldn't dream of putting someone into an EV if it didn't suit their needs, as a Clio Dci/Petrol are similarly priced/running costs we'd just supply that instead!

Do buyers have any reliability issues or post-purchase regrets? Do you get people trading in after a few months for a "conventional" vehicle because they can't get on with the EV stuff, or do they tend to stick with it?

The only 'relability' issues we have seen so far have been with charging points. A few customers have had to have their charging points replaced/refitted as they just weren't working. There is obviously always going to be niggles but these are quickly sorted. RUK works with British Gas as a supplier of charging points and they have been very good so far.

I haven't had a single complaint from any of my customers about their ZOE. They are universally loved by the people that buy them. That sounds crass but it is true, not a single complaint.

I'd suggest anyone who just wants to try one to call your Renault dealer, just say you want to give it a go for a few hours and I'm sure they'll oblidge, I think most dealers have a ZOE demo now and we have no issue lending it to people to try it out.

Hope that's a little bit helpful.

Thanks for the insight, I might try out a Zoe after Christmas.

What would be even more interesting is to get an idea of how they are doing in France. There is possibly slightly less anti French car sentiment and rather less badge snobbery then here, together with a much higher percentage of nuclear power on the grid.

The Twizy might be helped by there being a practical 'ride one to work' scooter culture on the continent rather than just a 'scene'.

I agree AC. There is also a lower powered version of the Twizy available there which can be driven at 16 (I think) which will make them more popular.

Can the Zoe be charged from a normal UK 3 pin socket?

No. Well, yes.

The car doesn't come with the cable (EVSE) to charge from a 3 pin socket but I believe there is aftermarket support (well there is in Europe, not in the UK)

Charing from the mains is riduclously slow and would only ever be useful in a dire emergency if you have 12+ Hours to kill....

Best to look at the twizy owners forum ( http://www.twizyowners.com/forumdisplay.php/15-Ran...) to see if the real-world range matches your needs before committing to anything....

Damn, I can't have a charging point at my place as it's a flat, but could easily get access to a 3 pin socket at work frown

And if you are home for 12 hours and only do 45 miles a day?
