Given you can get a diesel Smart for about half the price of the leccy one it doesn't make much sense does it?

I test drove one a few years back when I was living in the centre of brum. If was ok as a city car but too much of a compromise on a run on the A38 up towards Lichfield. On a moderate incline the speed was dipping to below 60 and flooring it you could visibly see the range dropping. This was an early beta test version for government sponsored consumer trials you could only get on a lease. So...They might have stuck in a bigger motor and batteries now though so would be worth checking out. Round town it was great. Able to zip along keeping up with traffic. Not totally silent either you could hear the wine of the motor so have an idea of how hard you push.

There were a few on 'test' round here over the last few years and now they seem to be on sale as I see more of them.

As you say it has been a kind of quiet launch.

I test drove one of these and was very impressed! Great instant torque and nippy just like the original petrol. The realistic range of 80 miles though puts me off, plus the price and battery lease options. Might be good as a delivery car for companies though!
