My day today - how would I do this with an EV (say a Leaf)

Hi there,
Good call, the more I read this thread the more I am leaning towards something like the I3 REX. I have contacted my local dealer to see if I can book a test drive, would be nice to have one for a couple of days, but not sure if they are able to do this.
Quite fancy a drive in an Audi A3 E Tron as well. Had a nosey round one that someone who came to our office had today, looks nice.
Regards
Tim
careful... once you've driven an i3 you won't want a normal car again. Watch the battery range on other hybrids. Lots less than an i3. The i3 was designed as an EV with a scooter motor aded as a generator. The etron and golf gte are ICE cars with an added EV motor and much smaller battery pack. I think about 6 kWh VS 22. And no carbon fibre. Depends on how much electric driving you want. What you'll find is you wish it could all be electric as when the motor is off its serene Whoosyness.Good call, the more I read this thread the more I am leaning towards something like the I3 REX. Yes, the Audi eTron is basically the same as the 2011-vintage Vauxhall Ampera/Chevy Volt. For reasons best known to themselves VAG have decided to fit the "slow" charger type and tiny battery - you'll be lucky to get 30 miles on electric and after that you are effectively just lugging a lot of dead weight around. Even the pure-electric Golf is no better than a 2010 Nissan Leaf (in fact, it's worse as the rapid 30-minute charging doesn't work!)I think for your profile if you are determined to get electric the i3 Rex is the best bet.
I had Leaf last year on the 7 day test drive.
Very impressed with the car overall.
Used it for my 120 miles round trip commute so 60 miles each way.
Luckily had access to a charger and free parking near to my work in Sheffield which takes the charging stress out of it.
I really enjoyed driving it and changed my style to suit.
It feels very well made with no rattles or creeks.
You can tell its heavy but the weight is all down low.
I worked out the best settings for the heater to keep me warm but not take too much from the battery and just enjoyed the journey.
Long term i think my commute is slightly too long but it would suit my wife's 35 mile commute a treat.
Also its ideal for the weekend/evenings when we are ferrying 3 kids to various clubs and friends houses.

Did you get a test drive yet? Was coming back to say some people have started getting their etrons delivered. Seems winter range is less than 20 miles Sometimes less than 15!
A smaller battery car running a heater that sucks in a few kW munches up the battery.
For a car that cost the same as an i3 I know which I'd prefer! Think VW Audi need to go back to the drawing board and design an EV from scratch. Not bolt motor and batteries into a redesigned platform. As soon as people stay to realise upto 30 miles means a maximum real world 20 that will cut the number of people who think they can get to work and back.
Theres a thread about it here...

Hi there,
No not booked to drive an E-tron yet and judging by the posts on the link you shared it would be pointless anyway.
I have to show the car gives a significant saving over my Diesel VW, that means really its only a 100% EV or an i3 REX I think.
Even an Ampera won't give me a saving really I don't think.
