I've had my 330e for just over a year and have been happy with it. 18 electric miles in the summer and about 12 in the winter. The issue I now have is that the charger that came with the car (plugs into standard outlet at home) developed a fault. BMW said it was misuse, I used it too often as it is only an occasional charger 'when you are stuck out in the countryside with no fuel or charge'. I also used an extension lead as the cable was too short to connect to a socket at my house, which not allowed. They want me to pay £647.00 to replace it, with a charger I can only use - 'when you are stuck out in the countryside with no fuel or charge'. As it's a lease car, at some stage I will need to buy one to go back to the lease company!!! Be warned.

Seems a bit excessive. The P11D value for a 330e M Sport is £37,765 and for the 330e M Sport Shadow Edition is £39,665.
Comparisons can be seen here http://comcar.co.uk/compare/?remove_vehicle=703738... under the "Company Vehicle Tax 2017/18" Section
That's what I thought, thanks for the info. It may be something to do with the slight change in the p11d putting me up another bracket in terms of personal contribution at work. Really excited to get the car now though, I have my chassis number and it is apparently being built in the next 2 weeks.

Didn't realise there were sockets out in the countryside just in case you ran out of fuel or charge - did you ask the garage where these phantom sockets were as that would be very useful to know ?

Was this dealer or BMW as stance seems very poor and wonder if there's anything under consumer rights - extension cable and frequency of use really should make no difference (assuming the extension lead was in a weatherproof box). Extract from the BMW iperformance website "BMW iPerformance models can be easily charged at home through a conventional household power socket via the supplied standard charging cable, and will have a full battery after approximately 3.5 hours. If possible, you should charge your BMW iPerformance model whenever the opportunity arises – be it at home or on the move. This means that you can always take advantage of the maximum possible electric range and thus minimise fuel consumption."

I did get a type 2 charger and lead but more for speed so don't tend to use mine. Is there a reset button on it anywhere i.e. for an internal RCD ? From a quick google aftermarket ones are labelled "portable" and look to be about £380 and they mention an RCD . You have , of course, checked the fuse in the 13amp plug ? rolleyes

If you can't get them to replace it you could gamble as not sure the lease company would know the charger wasn't working before they disposed of the car ?

Yeah, but was he in charge mode? Charge mode will obviously be detrimental to the MPG.
no charge mode because there were only 4% battery when I picked it up. I responded just before your post of my evaluation.

What method did you use to calculate the 1.07 litres of fuel you burned biggrin
Via the BMW Connected App....

Cold engine + save mode + short journey = crap mpg

That’s a poor position for them to be adopting. Was this from the dealer or a central customer service team? Also if it’s only an occasional charger why has it taken over a year to break?

If you’re keen to continue and get no joy from them could you buy a non-BMW one from eBay or one of the PHEV / BEV supply companies and keep it, putting the broken one back in the bag at handover? I’m planning on charging my PHEV from a set up like the one you described and hope it’s robust enough.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies, I ended up deciding on a 530E SE over the 330e M Sport, for a number of reasons, but the two big ones was the fact it felt a good big smaller forming down from my current F10 and my wife asked me a simple question .. how will you feel in a year or two when you start seeing people in the new version driving about ?

So after a lot of googling and trips to the dealers I decided on a Mineral White , I had LOVED blue stone paint since the first time I seen it and it is beautiful irl but .. I feel it is more suited to M-Sport versions with the big wheels and blacked out windows .. on the plain Jane SE it looks kinda boring, the mineral white colour is n reed to give the SE a bit of a uplift .. I have a few side by side pics and everyone once I showed them when ... oh .... wow yeah it is kinda dull.

So can I ask about the badges, ordering my 530e SE tomorrow and the guys at the 5 forum don't know the answer.

There is a choice of two de-badging options. ipreformance and model. Is my understanding Correct ?

Model takes the 530e of the trunk / boot and iperformace loses the blue circles on the alloys and blue inserts on the grill, even with both selected it still comes with the i on the wing and the e-drive on the rear pillor ?

These can't be removed for legal reasons to prevent someone from trying to jump start the car ? (Or was the sales man talking st )

Didn't see a reply to this.
They can remove the iperformance and model, if not, remove them yourself simple enough as they are only glued on. Keep them should you need to put them back on.

just reading this again - whats the i on the wing ? Is that something new on the 5 series as the only badges on my de-badge optioned 330e M-Sport are the e-drive on c pillar and M badge on the wing. "Model takes the 530e off the trunk / boot and iperformace loses the blue circles on the alloys and blue inserts on the grill, even with both selected it still comes with the i on the wing and the e-drive on the rear pillor ? "

I'd prefer mine not have the e-drive on but not strongly enough to attempt DIY removal - and maybe other comments re emergency services mean it's not a good idea anyway

The I is not on the msport, appears on the other models where the msport badge is on the front wing

Has anyone recently had their I-drive do a complete reboot?

Mine cut out completely and had a blank screen for 5 mins then it started up of its own accord....

I now have a different display for the radio....

Morning Gents

Looking at Specs now on the 330e Sport i'm considering ordering, (pending test drive of new 520d SE)

Options are below and looking for any comments or suggestions as limited on budget, especially re the audio, I had an E90 with the basic system and it was shockingly bad, biggest want is prof media but lose too much else to have that:

High gloss black interior with pearl chrome finish - Not a fan of the red
BMW advanced loudspeaker system - is it work getting HK, currently have B&O in an Audi
Individual sun protection dark tinted glazing for rear window and rear side door windows
BMW Individual merino leather steering wheel - I like a nice wheel!
Front folding/sliding centre armrest with storage - Find the sliding one nice in the Audi
Heated front seats - Could not be without them
Individual anthracite headlining - previous 3 cars have been black and i really like it
18" Double spoke alloy wheels - style 397 in Jet black
Alpine White - hate paying BIK on paint!!

To change to HK audio I would lose the armrest and black roof lining.

Thoughts?

I've a boggo spec 330e Sport, also in Alpine White.

Not totally bought on the colour, would prefer metallic if I'm honest.

Heated front seats, I had these on my previous A4 and loved them. Not totally necessary imho, as you can pre-condition the car to be warmed up.

Sliding front armrest, yes add this, mine doesn't have it and to be honest it's a pain in the elbow. I'm scanning eBay to see if I can get a s/h one for minimal cost to retrofit.

SPLIT REAR SEATS! Add these in, the fixed rear seats are a complete pain in the arse without.

The other bits? I think the std sound is OK, certainly as good as the "uprated" system my Audi had.....

When I had this on my shortlist the first thing to go on was the Comfort Pack as this had the split rear seats, heated seats and armrest all covered.

I managed to load it up with what I ideally wanted to the same personal contribution as the new 530e and then thought I’d taken it a little far

I went to the dealer first and then complained to BMW direct. They said the dealer was correct and they wouldn't accept it was a warranty issue. I think I'll install a proper home charging unit and try and pick up a used BMW charger on line before the car goes back. My boss insists the lease company will want a genuine BMW charger and they will test it. I've got two years to get one second hand !!!

Hi guys.

I'm on the hunt for a tethered charger. I can't seem to find any supplier who will fit a cable longer than 5m. Does anyone know any supplier who can fit one?

Thanks

Good Morning all

This is my first post I and I have to say a fantastic and informative thread which has been really helpful.

Just ordered my 330e in Alpine White M Sport Shadow Edition. This time round I made sure that I ordered the split folding seat which like others I missed off my last 3 series order which is the only option I did spec!!!! Always one to watch out for as I like others was caught out on my last 3 series and agree it is a total pain when your seats don't fold. Went for the Black leather with Oyster highlights and Brushed Aluminium trim with Black interior.

This is my first PHEV and having driven this, the Golf GTE and the Merc c350e in my opinion the BMW was the best of the bunch.

For info I have been given a delivery date of early November which is ok as my current company car is not due back till the end of November. Cant Wait...

Does anyone have any ideas on the life expectancy of the battery?

I'll be doing 3 miles a day in the winter to and from work - with the engine only being used on the weekends. Not sure how this'll effect things....

I went through the same process and ended up with the same result.

C Class has a nicer cabin but with a reduced battery and the drive wasn't a patch on the 3 series.

Golf and A3 both become largely impractical with the tiny boot space left after the batteries have been added.

I ordered my 330e M Sport at the start of April and have a confirmed delivery for Monday wink
