I did my first public charge today. On a ChargeYourCar charge point at a branch of Morrisons.
Apparently can use these free CYC chargepoint at this location with BMW chargenow/Polar+ (though not Polar Instant) but haven't got the RFID card yet. Signed up with CYC via the app on the spot. Free to use aside from a £1 connection charge. Phoned them up for help and they were really helpful. No RFID/fob required - this is how public charging should be done.
Only issue was a dodgy data connection inside the covered carpark so sporadically lost connection using the app whilst trying to initiate charging.
ChargeYourCar is still free in Scotland, no connection charge either.I did my first public charge today. On a ChargeYourCar charge point at a branch of Morrisons.

Hi, hoping someone can help.
The last 4 times I have tried to charge, from 2 separate public chargers, the car has not charged. See the photos for the warning message. I even tried to set the charging rate to "reduced" reacher than "maximum" and that didn't work. Cable looks ok to me. Charges as normal in Save Mode.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Steven
I had the exact same problem a few weeks ago. It will be the car requiring a new charge control unit. I got mine repaired under warranty within a week (delivery new part came over weekend) but another poster had it done in a day.The last 4 times I have tried to charge, from 2 separate public chargers, the car has not charged. Just go to the dealer and they'll sort it.
Folks, Can anyone tell me when the 330e is due it's first oil change. Under service settings it is telling me 01/2019 or next service due when stated distance has been covered, stated distance is 15,000km. I have covered 18,000. Surely this means I need an oil change ? Dealer is telling me it counts backwards and I don't need an oil change.
In other news..........
My brick charger failed over the weekend. The car was parked on my driveway in front of the house. It was late afternoon and the car had been charged over night, so presumably it was not charging at the time. I could hear this buzzing noise.Figured out it was coming from outside. Opened the front door and found the charger sitting there buzzing loudly. Power light on, but the ground lights and charging fault lights were flashing.
The car was fully charged actually and is fine. So is the socket it was plugged in to.
So I phone my nearest dealer this morning, Fair enough they want the car in for a diagnostic, next Tuesday. Or with a courtesy car end of October......LOL.

Unfortunately, it will be going nowhere with a "dead battery"
OK, you'll get poor consumption if all you do is hammer it in sport mode with a "battery of insufficient charge to allow all-electric driving". That better?Im-Vexed said:
Tongue in cheek response to the "dead battery" quote, due to the fact my limited edition 330e-stranged actually has a "dead battery", therefore is going nowhere - well I'm sure it must be somewhere, but the lease company have not let me no where!.........no malice intended.
Hope it re-appears in full working order soon flearoy said:
Have had my M Sport Shadow Edition for a week now. It had just arrived at the dealers as an intended demo. I decided I was too impatient for a factory order and bought it. The colour (black) and spec (usual Shadow extras as well as Professional Plus media package) suited me fine. Loving the dark light housings, black grille and tinted rear windows. Maybe in the black it's a bit too batmobile for some, but I'm chuffed. And the HK sound system is a serious bonus.
Only disappointment so far is the swirls the dealer kindly installed on the clear coat when they washed the car. I couldn't see the swirls when I collected the car in dull weather, but the next day the sun showed them in their full glory. Talking to dealer now about a solution, preferably not involving their valeters.
It's a beauty. Hope the dealer sorted out the swirls on the paint work. Just wondering if you got a good deal on the car since it was already in stock?Only disappointment so far is the swirls the dealer kindly installed on the clear coat when they washed the car. Yes, I was pretty happy with the deal I got. Swirls now sorted independently of the dealer. Car restorer neighbour has brand new DA polisher and said he'd be only too glad to have a project to try it out on. Was hesitant about being a guinea pig until he showed me some of his work. Did a fantastic job in the end. Told me the damage was very superficial and swirls came out with light polish. What a difference!

I switch between Auto and Save modes to boost the batteries on the motorway, to then reuse in traffic or at slower speeds.
I don't know the answer BTW.

If I'm doing a lot of motorway driving. using SAVE mode doesn't kill the mpg in the same way as using it around town. (I typpically see 25 mpg in this mode).
On the motorway, running in / save knocks about 3-4 mpg off, which you then recover in start/stop or low speed conditions as you're running in either assisted mode or full EV.
44.6 mpg is roughly what I used to get out of a 2l Audi A4 avant with 150 bhp!
Hi,
Have just joined the forum as I am going to replace my current 520d with a 330e MSport Shadow edition, once my current PCP expires next March.
I'm self employed and for income tax purposes would need to keep records of the metered amount of electricity used to charge the car each month. I've made enquiries with a local company who can fit a wall mounted charging unit along with what is called a 'DIN Meter' for around £250, or £199 without the meter. I saw earlier on this forum that you can subscribe to a BMW service that gives readouts of used electricity for an annual subscription. My question is, does this service only work with a BMW supplied charger or with any charging unit?
Any advice from any of you that also need to keep records would be appreciated!

I don't need to keep records, and I don't have that service, but I believe it's done through the car rather than any particular charger. So it would count electricity used at public charge points etc. So I guess not good enough for what you need.Have just joined the forum as I am going to replace my current 520d with a 330e MSport Shadow edition, once my current PCP expires next March.

I'd go with the meter option - you know that will be precise, and auditable if needed. I claim under the renewable heat incentive so I do have various meters like that.

Anyone know how I can see how much of the milage the car has done to date has been in petrol mode, and how much electric driving?
The BMW Connected Drive we portal will show you. If you haven't set that up yet just google BMW Connected Drive to find it; you'll need to register, and then add your car using the VIN.Gassing Station | EV and Alternative Fuels | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
