I’m picking up a new 530e on Thursday and I was wondering if anyone could recommend the best place to get a Type 2 charging cable from?
Not bothered about it being OEM.
Thanks.
eBay. Many company car owners sell them as they have no intention of charging. Mine came from a merc c350e driver. I prefer the Merc cable as it’s coiled and therefore stays off the floor when in use. Saves muck in your boot. Not bothered about it being OEM.
Thanks.
Had my yearly fuel report back from work today, thought id share as an insight into fuel costs over roughly 20k miles.
I charge hardly ever at home, charge if possible when out and about, possibly 2 or 3 times a month maximum so pretty much runs on petrol.
I do lots of motorway and don't drive it massively efficiently, often use sport mode, its just had its first service and tyres all had 6mm on so that's a bonus.
Total miles 20719 fuel cost £2908.95 (usually fill at supermarket so around £1.18 here) Pence Per mile fuel £0.14
Nothing else gone wrong with it apart from 3 recalls and a loose door handle.

My man maths is failing me - what does that work out mpg?I charge hardly ever at home, charge if possible when out and about, possibly 2 or 3 times a month maximum so pretty much runs on petrol.

Hello, first post here.
I am thinking of upgrading my 2011 320d ed to an F30 and the 330e is catching my eye from a performance and economy point of view.
There is a 2016 sport version available (no leather) at a reasonable price and I am considering it.
My commute is 40km (26 miles) each way with about 60% of that motorway, other roads are 100km/hr limited.
What kind of MPG could I expect on this kind of commute? Work charging is a possibility, we have a couple of leaf and ioniq owners with work charging provided.

I'm getting 78 mpg according to Idrive on a 12 mile commute in stop start heavy, heavy traffic and motorway charging both ends. I've done over 8000 miles since May and have to fill up once a month or so which is around £40.
Bare in mind the engine kicks in on the motorway (you can turn it to full electric but it won't last long)
Not bad at all but I thought it would have been a good bit better.

based on my average price of £1.18 it comes out at 38.2 mpg
Comparison last year in my A5 TDI with the same job and similar mileage it was 59.3 mpg
Winner for me is the BIK has gone from £320 to £158 per month
So my arithmetic suggests you paid less tax overall, but it cost the company more money in fuel if you did comparable miles the year before. Not really a saving then ?Comparison last year in my A5 TDI with the same job and similar mileage it was 59.3 mpg

(not having a go - just trying to work out which route is better)

My car is 11 months old with 19K on the clock. I got the coolant warning recently so I'll need to top-up the anti-freeze mixed with water (is that right?) but this seems unusual for a car of this age - would you agree? I'm wondering if there's a blockage or a leak in the radiator?
It's got 2 cooling systems, one for the battery pack/charging system as well as a standard one for the ICE. If you go through the thread it's not that uncommon to have a slight loss of coolant in the circuit for the electrics, and is quickly fixed by a top up. Edinburger said:

Anyone else suffering with their I drive system rebooting when driving?
Annoying, does it 3/4 times per journey.
Can’t get into the dealer for 4 weeks!
Mine comes alive with the ignition, then reboots after about 2 mins of driving.Annoying, does it 3/4 times per journey.

I’ve also had numerous “failures” of both the cruise control /speed limiter today, the error flags when I’m past one rotation of the steering wheel, so guess it must be a dodgy contact on the mfsw slip ring.
Both features work ok.

Yes mine does that too but then keeps rebooting every so often, annoying when you’re mid phone call as the hands free cuts out. Have to wait and see what sytner say.
Apart from my high voltage battery shambles early on, I have had zero issues with the car. Not even trivial stuff, like idrive or charge flap / charging issues as some have mentioned. 34 months and 36k miles in so pleasantly surprised. So much so, I am seriously considering doing the same again.
I normally change on 3 years but may keep this one a few months and get the new model later in the year. Never thought I would say that when the batteries were being replaced and bmw were being a collective bunch of assholes. But 30 months of totally trouble free and enjoyable driving in a car that suits my needs and habits is a factor.
And given the poor choice in EVs at the moment and the crap charging infrastructure, doing another 3 year hybrid is starting to appeal, probably makes sense in fact. The EV climate will be very different in 2022.

Plus it's a pain filling up 3 times a week sometimes.
If it wasn't for the miles I do I would opt out.
This was a decision on bik. I wanted the 330d shadow but it was much more a month on the tax.
I have a fuel card so charging at home is a pure cost to me hence not charging at home.

Mine also started rebooting yesterday. Drove it twice and it crashed then rebooted to the settings (radio etc) present when it was parked, about 30mins into each of the two journeys .Have to wait and see what sytner say.
If it keeps doing so, will take it to BMW next week.
