Anyone got a new convertible I8 ?.

They look fantastic value around the £84K mark for a 2018 with less than 2,000 miles on the clock.

Not got one, but had one on loan last year.
They're a nice development step over the original.

Infotainment nicely improved, HUD also, performance (particularly in Sport mode) seemed usefully better, more so than the raw figures would suggest.
Also tendency to spin the front wheels when pulling away quickly seems to have been ironed out.
Electric only real world range doubled, suggests efficiency improvements as well as small battery capacity increase.

Yes - I got one of the first cars last June. Good news for someone buying 2nd hand - ste for me frown
I had a coupe before and loved it - the Roadster is different; the ride is more refined, and the electric range much improved. Not brilliant at circa 26, but as my daily commute is only 13 miles I haven't put fuel in since September last year!
The average mpg display is in the 70's!
The boot space before in the Coupe was OK, with the ability to throw stuff on top of the engine cover and onto the back seats - now with the Roadster it's embarrassingly pathetic.
I tried to sell mine recently, and the trade bids were horrendous - looking at £50K loss in 10 months - but hey-ho, I bought against my business so a Corporation Tax saving of well over £20K - that's the only solace.

Hi
Thanks for the info , seems a lot of car for the money, tossing and turning on one or a nearly new Mclaren 570 spider.(best not to mention the depreciation word).

Different cars I know but both appealing ... Guess with the Bmw you should have no issues.

Absolutely no issues with it - had a ICE issue with Coupe which was sorted ever so efficiently with BMW. They even delivered a practically identical i8 whilst mine was being fixed. That issue was a miss-fire caused by a sensor on the throttle body!!
I do like the 570’s, but the whole McL Range is so confusing- and as for the D word frown

My 2016 version has managed 51 average mpg over the last 15k miles. But varies wildly from low thirties (hammering it without a full charge) to well over a hundred for tootling around my local area.

I imagine the LCI version is a little better, not enough to make a measurable difference IMHO

Very interesting range of results but I guess it varies wildly between different modes doesn't it

It depends on mode, normal distance travelled, plugged in or not, and of course how hard you drive.

I've had as high as 150+mpg on a short 20 mile drive, where it could use e-drive a lot. And as low as mid-teens on track.

But by comparison, my 720S will drop into single digits (around 5mpg) when *really* pushed.

Given the lack of moving mechanical parts surely no reason to avoid these on the second hand market?

Even without a warranty?

Surely with an ICE and a hybrid-electric power unit it has more mechanical moving parts than a traditional ICE only car?

It has as much moving mechanical parts as normal car + expensive battery pack. This is an interesting car with two issues: rear end looks quite bad and battery pack (when out of warranty).

No need to avoid at all.

Engine is basic and battery is small, so won't be expensive if the worse happens. It's a stunning car and a real bargain at the moment, so fill ya boots!

Exactly, it's just a MINI engine.
