We are seriously thinking about changing our 2015 model for a new one in the next few months and making it the family car a role that's currently undertaken by my Octavia

For those that have done the same is the in car entertainment a significant improvement , i find ours to be diabolical?

The in car entertainment is the oldest part of the car's technology, when you compare how it works and what it offers compared to any other mainstream brand which makes a similar size car. No Apple Carplay, no Android Auto and even though mine is the Business Edition model, the voice recognition feature is disabled (you have to buy the higher models)

The owner's forums in UK/US have the same complaints, and the factory sat nav isn't particularly great either.

I've done 6,500 miles since new and the on board computer shows fuel economy of 62mpg as an average over those miles, which is probably 59mpg in reality given that my own calculations show the on board computer tends to be around 5% optimistic.

After 8,500 miles my 2016 Prius is returning some great MPG.

The temperature has risen recently and I've got my best tank ever. Ambient temperature seems to make a big difference to fuel economy.

AC has used on every trip too. Mostly urban traffic in London but I do a fair amount of cruising on A roads at 40 and 50mph too.

Dashboard shows 74.7 mpg - I filled up a few miles after the low fuel light came on and the actual mpg comes out as 70.3 mpg

So I paid 7.3 pence per mile on this tank in petrol costs. The dashboard is 5.9% optimistic for this tank. I drive into central london before sunrise most days and on those trips, I'm now getting 85-95mpg shown on the dash.

Given a 43 litre tank and another 7 litres left at the time I filled up, then I would have in theory been able to drive another 105 miles until the tank was completely dry. That would give a range of 662 miles.

Your average speed is pretty low though raspy

Has anyone listed some similar figures for average speeds closer to 50mph?

I just got back from 3 days in North Wales. Lots of A-roads and B-roads. Tried to enjoy the drive and push the car to the limits while staying safe - no "eco driving" going on here.



This is on an Excel model with the 17 inch wheels.

I'm seriously impressed.

Hi all, just in the process of choosing a compaany car and wasn't really considering a Prius. Then i looked at the pence per mile allowance.
Currently in a Focu ECO boom 1.0, with very gentle driving i get around 44mpg, meaning i'm losing cash every mile i drive.
The Prius gets me 14p a mile, which means i need to averay around 40mpg to break even.
What sort of mileage are folks getting on motorway use?
Most sites seem to suggest around 50mpg.

Databases of actual fuel usage reported by owners such as Spritmonitor and Honest John indicate that the current gen 4 Prius is averaging about 63mpg.

Even my gen 2 is on a 56mpg lifetime average over nearly 150000 miles. Over the last 2 years it has had almost exclusively motorway use and does about 53-54mpg in that environment.

Sounds like it makes financila sense and its a work tool so fun factor isn't really a part of it.
Need to book a 48 hour test drive i think!

I have the Gen4 with 17 inch wheels and various other posh bits. Getting 63mpg all day long. In cold weather (with use of heater etc.) it's dipped to 61mpg.

Day 5 of week test drive. 67mpg. Driving in line with road speed. Using the radar cruise control. Amazed. As a work tool this is fantastic. Using eco mode was actually worse than normal. Clarkson POWER mode drops it to 40 ish. But surprisingly quick, definitely not fast but above normal road users. After much hate I absolutely love this car as a work tool. Sadly the lack of a decent Android or even sheep phone interfaces is inexcusable in an allegedly high tech car. As is no auto wipers or parking sensors. Not very PH but it is white goods. Will actually be gutted to hand it back. Still come April i will be placing the order for an Elite, on 15s.

What’s it like in terms of road noise? My Auris went back in September to be replaced with a 2009 E320 CDI. The Merc is streets ahead for driver comfort and refinement but it costs a relative fortune in terms of fuel, tax, maintenance etc. Admittedly it’s an old car and it’s just normal maintenance, I’ll also save from the lack of depreciation.

There is a bit of road noise, no worse than the Focus I was given in Jan and quieter than the 308 hire car I currently have. The lack of engine noise probably makes it more noticeable.

Anyone know what it is about the Prius system that they havent carried across to the Auris or Ch-R?
About 15mpg difference?

Might be wrong but I think the auris and CHR are using the previous generation technology.

think you are right the Auris uses the Gen3 Prius engine

CHR uses the current gen powertrain - it's based on the Gen4 Prius. No idea why there is such an MPG difference but it comes on bigger wheels and seems more plush inside so maybe it's a weight thing?

Auris is still on the Gen3 technology. Apparently the Auris is going to be replaced this year, and the Corolla name is coming back.

There is a big difference between the 15" wheel and 17" on the official figures for the Pius. CH-R has huge wheels. Rather like the look of the CH-R. Not on my company car list or I would book a test drive.
Emissions levels differ with wheel size too, which makes a big difference on tax.
Another 300 miles covered in the Pius today and still averages over 65mpg. Eco mode not only makes it much slower but gives worse mpg, which is odd. Seems to get better mpg using cruise control over my foot. Possibly the clever electronic systems work better when it has full control? Every other car I've had has been better using manual over cruise.
I am going to miss it when it goes back Monday.

The CHR is tall and I suspect has significantly more aerodynamic drag.

My Auris was very sensitive to head winds in terms of fuel economy so aerodynamics probably plays a big part in the overall figures.

The only things that stop me going for a CHR are the relative lack of power (slower than a Prius) and the infotainment system that looks rather outdated now. The rest is great. And I love the looks.

If they put the RAV4 hybrid drivetrain in there (with the 2.5 litre engine) and upgraded the infotainment, I would be very interested. I told my dealer this and he said he doesn't know of any updates on the horizon but it has been a huge success for Toyota so he wouldn't be surprised if there is a refresh.
