Anyone having aircon issues? My aircon is hardly effective when using battery power - need to turn MAX AC on to get the car cooled but once petrol kicks in its fine???

Hi Prancing (& Craste),

Looking at your instrument panel Craste, I can see that you have the latest model and therefore a larger more efficient battery pack than mine. I've had my car for a year and even fully charged it has never shown more than 19 miles of electric range.

With regard to your air con problem Prancing, I think I'd take it straight to the dealer. I've never had a problem running on electric and as it's under warranty they should check it out. Ask for a courtesy car if they need to keep it in.

700 miles in the last 48 hours with no opportunity to charge it up.

35 mpg, I was booting it at every opportunity

That sounds good to me. I fancy a drive to Scotland for the NC500!

Unfortunately it wasn’t good as most of it was traveling to London, Peterborough and Sunderland for work.

I drove back from Ballater to north Hampshire a couple of weeks ago - 500 miles ish. 3 fills on the same day... 9 hours in the car though, very very comfortable. Despite my iDrive control still not moving left to right.

Had to pump up my rear drivers side tyre a few times this week as the warning keeps coming on.
Booked it in to national tyres and they found a screw in my run flat.

Glad a opted for full maintenance, new rear tyre after 8500 miles with no additional charges.
Asked the guy in there how much it would have been, he said £300.00

Happy days.

They may be exaggerating a bit but not much. Prices obviously depend on brand/spec etc. but even the 20" 275/30 runflats cost c.£220-£290. Like you I'm glad I went for all costs included in the lease. Might cost more but at least I don't feel the pain when these things happen.

Sorry to drag up an old thread.

I am considering a used 530e (would look for the newer 12Kw battery) or the new 330e.

My commute is approx 86 miles a day (43 each way) that consists of about 4 miles urban and the rest is dual carriageway that rarely has much traffic.

I can charge at home and will leave first thing with a full battery. I cannot charge at work.

I have no issues chilling out at 60-65mph on the dual carriageway.

I currently have a D4 S90 that’s averaging 55-65mpgs for the daily commute.

What economy could I expect from a 530e (assuming the 330e would be slightly better still?

Thanks!

I have the 530e with the 9KW battery and get about 20miles out of range, I think the larger battery will do 30, therefore 70% of your commute will use no fuel.

At 65mph on ICE it'll do approx 40mpg. (at 75-80mph it'll do 30ish mpg)

I have a similar commute, 44 miles each way 40 of is motoway. So 88 miles total. If i charge at both ends 75mpg summer, 65-70mpg winter. Only charging at one end you will get just over 50mpg. However im sat around 75-80 mph so you may eek some extra mpg.
The 530e is a lovely comfortable car. But to be honest im going back to diesel after.

Interesting - thanks. I’d like to think the economy at 60-65mph is 7-8 mpgs better than at 75-80mph like is in it 2 litre diesel. Why back to diesel?

That's 450Wh/mile eek
I didn't realize PHEV's were so inefficient... and I'm guessing it's no M5 beater in terms of performance?

The useable capacity on a 9.2KW (2017-2019) BMW530E is around 8Kwh so this works out at 400Wh/mile.
looking at EV Database, the most efficient EVs would appear to be Tesla Model 3 at 235Wh/mile. The Ipace is 365Kwh/mile and Etron is 375Kwh/mile. Given the BMW is carrying all the normal ICE hardware (engine) equipment plus batteries, the efficiency does not look out of order.

Well at 8 months old mine now has 14000 miles on it.
I have just looked and the overall mpg since new has dropped from 50mpg to 45.2mpg.

I suppose that’s what I get from lots of 400 mile days, it’s just running on petrol most of the time.

Mine now has just over 20,000 miles on it - average mpg over those 20K is 75.9. I use it mostly for commuting. Commute is 29 miles each way and I have charging at work. I have never been able to do the whole 29 miles on battery - highest ever achieved was 24 miles in summer with a/c off.
I guess if I was to upgrade to the newer 12Kwh model I might be able to do the whole journey on battery in warmer temperatures.

24615 total miles on my '67 reg 530e. Average of 110 mpg. I'll take that... with total electric distance at 17,025 miles!

I've now done 17k miles in my 9kW battery 530e. Most days I cover between 60 and 150 miles. I have a charger at home and charge every time i get home, virtually no charging out and about except for the odd 45 minutes on one of the free Tesco chargers. I'm averaging 57mpg. I'm very happy, low BIK as a company car (and drops in April). Work give the government approved rate of 15p/business mile and that more than covers my combined electricity and petrol costs. On the evening and weekends much of my personal mileage is in EV costing me aprox 5p/mile. Plus I get to drive around in a £47k BMW instead of a £30K Passat or the like!

The spec sheets are confusing for the 530e. One portion of the bmw uk webpage says the petrol engine is 250bhp on its own. I think the petrol and electric motors are the same in 330e 530e and 740e with the power levels set by the ecus. But hard to find actual facts on any of this!
No, I'm sure that is wrong. No way is the ICE 250bhp. I think it's about 190bhp + c.70bhp from the battery. You can't just add them to get a total though because they peak at different ranges. I think the total is about 250bhp.
