Anybody else got a 530e on Order?

I ordered early Feb, originally told May, the June, now scheduled for Week 30 (end of July).

Maybe it's G30 capacity overall.

took a while to arrive in the UK due to waiting for transport. Had it now nearly two weeks.

Just finalised my order for a 530e with our fleet admin. Hoping for sept delivery as that is when my current car goes back. I cant wait!

Se model as msport cost a lot more for little extra functionality as i've ordered vdc. Plus hk, comfort pack and seats and drive assist + to make daily commute stress free...

Hi there, did you get chance to drive it (or any G30 before you ordered?)

I did not get the chance to drive a 530E as there were none available in February to drive. I did however borrow a G30 530D Xdrive for a couple of days to use. I found it much better than the F10 5 series that I have driven a lot but not owned.
By comparison to the G30 530D xdrive, the 530e does not carve around the corners in the same way that the xdrive does, you can also tell that there are heavy batteries in the rear when cornering.
Refinement wise, the 530E wins - it is S class levels of refinement when in electric mode, even in combined mode it is very good - it makes the Bower and Wilkins Surround Sound a joy to listen to. Ride is very good too (I have variable damper control).
Electric range is nowhere near 29 miles - mine is currently showing 21/22 miles and half a mile after setting off in a morning or evening even when using preconditioning I have lost 2 miles of electric range.
As others have noted, the SE model makes more sense as you get very little extra on the MSport but the price is a lot more. The ride also suffers slightly on the M Sport with the bigger wheels. I went for a very high spec SE model so have most extras.

Thanks Chris, I tend to agree on the SE vs Msport version and as my car will have another telematics device fitted I won't be doing too much spirited driving...

I fully expect to get c.20 miles in the warmer weather and maybe 14-15 on electric in the winter months. Are you able to set the pre-conditioning to end c.30 mins before you plan to leave and then the batteries have chance to top back up before you drive off?

I've got a 520d arriving a week on Thursday for a long weekend test and I'll take it up from Southampton to Canary Wharf then to the Cotswolds and back so plenty of opportunity to test the practicality and motorway comfort if not the engine.

Appreciate you taking the time out to give me a flavour of your ownership so far.

Yes you are able to set the pre-conditioning time to 30 mins before your intended departure time - I have set it up for my normal departure time Mon-Fri - it works very well. The car is either heated or chilled and the batteries at full charge.
Driving style makes quite a difference to how much you get out of the batteries - basically maintaining momentum and planning ahead achieves most from the batteries although in London traffic this driving style can sometimes annoy other drivers.
In electric driving mode (MAX E drive) taking your foot off the accelerator pedal introduces significant braking effect as the batteries are re-charged. On a long downhill section this can re-charge the batteries significantly so maintaining a steady downhill speed works best.

Several things have surprised me about the car
- the level of refinement is astonishing particularly on E drive.
- the speed and pickup using just electric drive is very good. In normal rush hour traffic e drive is more than sufficient.
- the combination of petrol and electric for instant pickup when you need it makes the car good to drive in fast moving traffic.
- the B+W Surround Sound is one of the best Hifi systems I have heard in a car (I have B+O plus Burmeister in other cars)

The negatives with the car would be :
- Apple Car Play is full of bugs
- setting the car settings up takes some time.
- the car is quite big which can be an issue on country lanes and in tight traffic situations.

I had a 530e for 2 day test drive before ordering. As commented above it was very impressive.the transition from ev to ice is seamless and running on electric in traffic is so composed, relaxing and natural. I also had a merc e350e test drive over a long weekend. It was very unpolished compared to the bmw. Odd jerks from the drivetrain, only 8-9 miles ev range, coarse ice engine and bizarrely very very poor dab reception! Chalk and cheese really. Though merc works out quite a lot cheaper once both specced up and discounts applied.

With telematics fitted in my current C250 I have to watch my speed and know all about frustrating other drivers so I feel my driving style has been altered enough that being more defensive / planned with my movements will fit the hybrid model rather well (on top of the perks of the BiK savings).

I find the 7 speed gearbox on my Merc really rather jerky and so frustrating when it interferes when I'm using the paddles so I'm looking forward to testing the 8 speed on the 5er.

I've whittled the short list down to the 530e and randomly the new Mini Countryman SE so I've got two very different types of car to try but both would fit my needs in one way or another. The size of the 5 is my only concern, I had a 2011 A6 before the C class and I felt I didn't really need something that big. I think the refinement of the 5 will trump the practicality of the Mini (not to mention the looks) but there's a usable boot, sliding rear seats and some additional tech that I could get on the Mini, not to mention the 4wheel drive which plays well for me getting some guns in the back and occasionally getting dirty down on the farm.

£26 difference in monthly cost between the two cars and pretty negligible BiK payments compared to my current oil burner... Makes it interesting

Just had my 530e order confirmation (took forever to work its way through admin process). Delivery mid-sept but i'm a little sceptical on that so will have to wait a few weeks for progress updates before i get too excited.

Very happy so far. Getting mid twenty miles on Battery, which means on my 15 mile commute to work ( fast A roads through edge of Peak district, urban at either end) I've seen over 200mpg. 340 miles over all so far, on about 4/10 of a tank. So something like 75-80mpg average.

Electric only is surprisingly swift and very responsive at low speed, so give an impression of lightness by getting moving very easily. Silent in this mode and not much louder with the ice running (which can be hard to notice in the change over). The new interior is very good, as is idrive 6 and the digital dash. Ride and handling seems ok (SE on 18") only strange thing is that the steering in comfort does not auto-centre strongly so needs forcing straight in the last 45 degrees rather than just accelerating and it pulls straight.

Going to find time for it's first detail this weekend so will post some pictures then.

Guys getting ready to order a new 530e SE myself to replace my 520d. Quick question I really dislike the e drive badges on the side, anyone know which option removes them ? The model designation option or the ipreformance designation removal option ?

Unfortunately it's right at the limit of our company scheme so the only option that doesn't take me over the limit is high Bean assist & upgrade to moonstone blue. Am 95% sure of the 530e thou am still tempered by the option of a 330e with 10k options limit lol

New 3 coming out soon so it's relatively aged compared to the 5. Stick with the 5.

I believe a hair dryer and dental floss will remove badges if all else fails on the de-badging.

I got my 530e M Sport bang on time last week (July 7th) ordered end of March. (Went for Bluestone with Ivory interior). I got just the practical options like split fold seats, auto boot, sun protection, Bmw Loud speaker system but also specified VDC. The Audi A6 Avant Ultra black edition that I had for 3 years was superb but this is something else. My work commute is 19 miles one way and half of that is Motorway. According to the stats I am driving between 65%-75% on pure electric. 130-150 Mpg average without even trying.

I plug in (standard plug) when I get to work and same again when I get home. (Takes about 3 hours to full charge as I usually have 8 miles or so left when I arrive.)

I did a trip to Brum last Sunday and on the motorway I put the 'mode' into 'Battery save mode 100%'. It seemed to really top the battery up very well. Drove in electric once off the motorway on both sides. Is this the right strategy to set this to 100%? or does this really knock the ICE economy?

The car is obviously very quiet, very smooth and stealthy quick when you want it to be. It is quite dynamic and seems to handle really well. Still getting used to the i-Drive (seems so much on there!) and had a few problems with the connected app at first but finally working well. The boot is a bit of a shock coming from an A6 Avant but i knew this anyway. Will just have to make do (especially as we have a 3 and 5 year old too). Only regret is i wish i could have gone for HK sound system. The loudspeaker is no where near as good as the Audi Bose system. I knew it would be worse but didn't think it would bother me this much.

Overall really impressed with this car. Seems like next generation.

Ref the e-drive badges that someone mentioned earlier. I asked the dealer this a couple of months ago. He gave the impression that you cannot remove them and there would be a hole there if you did. Not sure how accurate this is though? Luckily i quite like having the badge. Exclusive club hehe smile

My med blue 530e is due mid sept.. Se model with vdc, hk, vis etc. My 'use case' is pretty much same as you. 21 mile commmute 50/50 back roads and m-way. There are free charging points at work so im hoping to spend very little on fuel for my commute. Do you know what mpg you got on the longer run? Im hoping to get 40ish on long mway cruise.

I also have 3 and 5 year olds so couldnt quite bring myself to order ivory so went for cognac...

The iperformance model designation includes the e drive badge on the side so if you don't want them select deletion. If you can't use floss and sticky stuff remover once it's arrived to remove. They are just stick on as are all the badges except the BMW badge front and rear.
