New Nissan Leaf
Discussion
Agree the leaf like all EV's far too expensive. so.....I back in Dec 2016 I bought a 2 year old Leaf (top spec Tecna model) from a Nissan dealer. 15k miles, was offered interest free credit (50% deposit), was given 3 free services....paid £10k :-)
was at local dealer last month for the service...was offered 9K for it (now done 24k miles), but wife loves it so it stays for another year - makes sense at that price point...forget £20K !
I have a Kia diesel lease for long family/business trips.....and a C63 for proper driving.

There's vids on YT showing it working. Seems pretty clever but I wonder how the brakes will fare not being used for so long potentially.
You still have to use the brake pedal to bring the car to a complete stop, at junctions, lights etc. Same as the old Leaf (one of which I own) in B mode, but I think the new one gives more regen. So brakes will get used on every journey, and won't suffer/seize.I'd be interested to know if the new Leaf activates the brake lights when it's regen braking. Mine doesn't, and it catches out people behind who don't expect it to decelerate so quickly. I keep an eye on the mirror and adjust my use of the regen braking if someone is tailgating, or I can see they aren't paying full attention, using phones etc.

I test drove the new Leaf the other day. When you put e-pedal switch on and you lift off gas pedal, the brake lights come on. During my test, I didn't touch the brake pedal when in e-pedal mode. Even from 50mph, when judged well, I brought the car to a complete stop at a light, just by lifting off the gas pedal. What was odd was the feeling of being held on the hill at the light, with no feet on the pedals and the handbrake off. Once you get used to it, I suspect you would rarely touch the brake pedal, unless you had to a sudden stop because someone cut into your lane etc. I'd be interested to know if the new Leaf activates the brake lights when it's regen braking. I think e-pedal would be great in stop start traffic, rather than having it on all the time, so it's good they made it switchable. I didn't like it when joining and driving on motorway.
However, e-pedal is not the same as B mode. They are different features.
A shame the seat base is at a weird angle. I couldn't get comfortable and got knee pain after 5 minutes. I tested a Smart ForTwo EV today and that was way more comfortable as a driving position than the Leaf (and felt roomier for me as a driver!)

The ZOE has quite strong regenerative breaking too and if driven smoothly and with enough anticipation then you can get away without using too much of the brake pedal.I was genuinely lead to believe that the the new Leaf had this fantastic new 1 pedal system, with literally only 1 pedal; clearly just marketing hyperbole.

Not really, as someone mentioned, it can be driven with one pedal if you so wished.I was genuinely lead to believe that the the new Leaf had this fantastic new 1 pedal system, with literally only 1 pedal; clearly just marketing hyperbole.

Thanks, interesting. Actually, it prompts a further question. Is there D mode, B mode and e-pedal mode on the new Leaf, or just D and e-pedal to choose between?
You have D and B on the transmission, and the switch for the e-pedal too. I did try putting it in B mode and on e-pedal at the same time, but was too much regen for my liking. raspy said:

Rumoured PCP pricing is £3k down, £379/month on a 3yr deal for the 2.ZERO launch model
6000 miles/yr, FV £11k
£26490 on the road
Seems excessive
too right, my i3 Rex was £1500 down and £260+vat/month - that's for a £45k car.6000 miles/yr, FV £11k
£26490 on the road
Seems excessive
they must have zero faith in residuals... the sums point to it being worth about £10k after 3 years.
