So apparently the braking distance of a Tesla 3 is worse than a full sized pickup truck and well below average compared to other similar cars.

Elon Musk issued a statement that a software update will sort this out...

Maybe bigger discs and calipers are in order?

It’s probably to maximise the return conversion of energy ... doesn’t necessarily mean it’s unsafe as such though

Without regen turned on (either completely full battery or very cold), the X is a bit frightening on stopping distances.

BMW’s? BMW’s what?

Fires aren't unheard of with Teslas either, are they?

After an accident it's not unusual. BMWs seem to do it on their own.

Apparently so do LandRovers....seems like most manfactures have achieved spontaneous combustion feature long before Tesla.

Elon Musk is such a con man by the way the media hype up Tesla catching fire stories you would have thought Tesla came up with burning car feature by themselves, next your be telling me other car brands are also involved in fatal accidents, because that also seems to be one of Teslas USPs going by media stories.

I suspect that given how heavy Teslas are with the battery pack that they are a little below the norm in braking capabilities.

60-0 Brake Test
Consumer Reports - 46m
Motor Trends - 36m
Tesla - 40m
BMW 750i - 34m

There's definitely room for improvement, and you'd be grateful for 6m, let alone 12m in an emergency. But I don't think it's a shocker.

Model 3 isn't particularly heavier than the competition, it's quite close to the 340i weight.

My mistake I slipped into comparing Model S with 7 series.

The S is heavy but a few hundred kg lighter than the panamera hybrid..

I expect the refresh to be lighter or have a huge battery, 3 energy density is way up
