I Pace sets new EV record around Laguna Seca

A fairly interesting approach to steering from Randy Probst here, but an interesting lap all the same. This apparently beats both the Model 3 and Model S lap times around the circuit making it the fastest production EV so far.

Gotta be at least another second in that car if driven "properly"........

It needs to be driven more like a rally car (because it's heavy, and not that grippy), slower in, get it turned hard, then boot it out, using the torque biasing and massive traction to rocket it off down the straight.

Trying to carry too much speed just overloads the front tyres.

(oh and the weird steering? wtaf? has he been watching you-tube barry boys videos?? ;-)

No, he’s been doing this:

‘Active in the SCCA World Challenge GT series and the Grand American series' GT class, Pobst was the 2003, 2007, 2008, and 2010 SCCA World Challenge GT champion, the 1996 North American Touring Car Championship title winner, and the 2005, 2006 and 2007 SCCA World Challenge TC vice-champion. He is also a two-time class winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona, in 2001 and 2006.’

I’m guessing he knows a bit more about it than some random internet warrior and would have a bit more idea on how to drive the car than someone who’s likely never even seen an i-Pace nor been to Laguna Seca.

Says who? I know who RP is, in fact, i've actually sat next to him on a few track laps in the US with the SRT viper.

And I can name at least 3 people on the iPace chassis team who could beat that lap record if given a chance (and who certainly have a better handwheel technique, and crucially, understand how the torque vectoring works and how to get the best from it)
