Bought the wife a BMW 225XE because it had a good driving position, was AWD and drove well. A side benefit was being an EV as well.
It will do 20 miles on a 6hr 10A charge. That works out at 13.1p/mile on electric. Having drained the charge it's doing 40 mpg, at £1.25/litre, that is 14.0p/mile.
Not sure if gas/coal or wood in a power station massively reduces the CO2 output compared to burning petrol?
Well, AWD for a while! But when you put the numbers down like that it does beg the question.

Yeah AWD so long as there is charge in the battery wink
That is good enough for what she wants smile

How much are you paying for electricity ? yikes

Even at 15p a unit it's 10.8p/mile

If you use E7 that comes down to 6.5p/mile

just to add

the battery on the 22xe is 7.6Kwh

you are putting in 14.4Kwh on a charge - so something is very very wrong!

Check your leccy bill
My kWh unit rate is 15.81p/kWh but that does not include standing charge etc. ALL our bills should state a TCR rate (akin to APR on loans) which is the "all in" rate. Mine is 18.3p/kWh from a know competitive supplier. I don't have E7.

The battery is not 7.6kWh it is rated in Ah and is voltage dependent, it is not 12V its higher but not sure how much.
I DO know it pulled 10A at 230V for 6 hours from flat

I know exactly what I am paying - you are being ripped off!

You are talking nonsense - your car should take approx 3 hours to charge

My concern is where is all that excess electricity is going - heat ?

For the past two decades I have owned a business delivering energy savings from reducing electricity consumption.
That is all.

Okay (you clearly have "issues")

Take it up with BMW and I quote:

"As a plug-in hybrid, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer with eDrive can charge its
lithium-ion high-voltage battery (gross capacity: 7.6 kWh) either by means of
brake energy recuperation during a journey or when plugged into a domestic
power socket (in three hours 15 minutes from empty)"

before your house burns down frown

No need
I know the current draw
I know the voltage
I know how long it took to charge from flat
I know my TRC rate
Therefore school boy maths

BTW 7.6kWh is the total energy rating of the battery (usual convention is to state it in Ah at a Voltage)
NOT the available charge
BMW quote that as 6.1 kWh but conveniently don't state the voltage so there is no way to confirm the current draw of the motors or peak current delivery.

All that said the wife loves it and the petrol goes on a fuel card so its cheaper for us to use the ICE the majority of the time wink

So with "schoolboy maths"

How do you put 14.4Kwh in to a 7.6Kwh battery ?

Why does your charge take twice as long as it should ?

and why are you paying way too much for electricity ?

My wife has a 2017 225xe, generally we are really pleased with it. However when its running on engine only it is really noisy. I know its a little 3 cyclinder but it does sound more like a concrete mixer.

We mentioned it to dealership and they found nothing. I have noticed that the exhaust gets black quickly so perhaps its not burning petrol efficiently? Is that normal?

To be fair he has a point.

I have a company outlander, used it today so from flat thought I would charge it and see how it compares to your figures.

Fully charged in less than 6 hours (dont know how much less, was fully charged at 6 hours) from standard 3 pin plug.

Cost was £1.14, that will do 25-30 miles depending how I drive it.

I charged mine in 3h10m from flat this morning. Yellow cable charger plugged into an extension lead going into the wall.

I've no idea how much it will cost.

I haven't seen a theoretical 20 miles on the dash, never mind in practice........waiting for summer.

Has anybody else received text messages from Total Motion asking for mileage updates on their 225? I’ve received 2 or 3 but haven’t replied to any; I figure they’d call me if it was genuine & important to them.

My other current lease & previous 2 haven’t asked me for any mileage info.
