I had an i3 for three years and never had a problem - and am on several EV forums and have never heard of one incident of a side port getting broken
I saw one get trashed in Kingston once. It was an Ampera I think, it was years ago. Anyway, van went past and clipped it.kuro68k said:

Maybe it's not about it being broken, but inconvenient? Easy to get in the way while walking around it in a garage/on the driveway for example...
I didn’t think about that to start with - but wherever you pick it will be more inconvenient in some situation and less in others. I think a charger at the side of a main road will be better with a side port - though problems in left hand drive country if right for right hand drive... The etron (optionally) having two ports is a step forward. It is a Bit potty that the iPace has it on front left, Tesla is rear left (I think?), i3 is rear right. I had my charger in the garage moved when I changed my car from i3 to iPace

So fine in summer but no good in autumn never mind winter...
Yeaph 150 miles range is fine in the UK with destination charging, but if that drops to below 100 miles in winter than your at the mercy of the public charging network for any long trips. Am not sure anyone wants to face trying to work an Ecotricity charger in the middle of Jan, freezing rain, traffic jams/diversions etc.
Back to the same argument again though. 90%+ of SUV's are bought and used on school runs etc. or short commutes with very occasional long distance trips. At an average speed of 30-40 MPH as most will be used 200+ miles of range will be achievable all year round based on the figures above meaning most owners would only need to charge once a week?
As an example my wife uses the i3 for all of her travel at the minute and even with a max range of 150-170 miles a single weekly charge at the weekend is enough with an occasional overnight top up during the week if required. She drops the kids at school and picks them up, goes to work, goes shopping etc. as would be the usage scenario for the vast majority I'd expect.

Don’t speak German so won’t be watching that! Will be interested to hear how you find it. I have an iPace (5 weeks in, now)
It's a bit like watching German pawn - don't need all the lingo to appreciate the action :-) I tested the iPace earlier - very impressive, much sportier. Quality is high too, but the extra spce swung it for me. Now the search is on for a weekend car too. How've you found the iPace so far?
