That was my idea when I got my Polestar 2 in October 2020, but I didn't think a wrap would cost £3.5k+ VAT (best quote) so stuck with black.
Cost of a decent wrap often exceeds that of an optional colour on a car.Plus, from what I gather you're lucky if they last 3 years on daily use.
This one is certainly different on the polestar forum

Never realised it was that much to be honest!
There's probably people doing it for less, but I wouldn't take my GBP 50k car there. In theory you can buy the 3M wrap and do it yourself, it just takes a lot of work and patience to get right.
I'd happily have a go at wrapping a roof or bonnet but anything more than that needs a lot of practice.

Probably best ordering it in a standard black and getting it wrapped? I have seen a couple on the forums that have done this.

Having come from succession of more unusual or interesting colours in my car choices over the years I felt quite disappointed at the lack of options for the Polestar. I did plenty of online research for wrapping and spoke to a handful of companies. I was advised if you are going to choose a colour to put the wrap over black would be the better option because it hides the shadows and if you don't do the door shuts it doesn't look glaringly obvious......Plus black was the only free colour, so what's the point in paying for a different colour and then paying again to wrap over the top of it.
My car arrived in black, I then had it wrapped in 3M Cosmic Blue. I got quotes from four different companies and went with a reputable company. I paid £1700 inc vat, that included wrapping a couple of the chrome bits in gloss black as well.
I justified it to myself on the basis that it was roughly £1000 for any colour other than black, so I paid £700 more than that to choose pretty much any colour I wanted - and I now have a pretty unique car, I suspect there isn't another one in the same colour.
I had quotes varying from £1500 up to £2300 for exactly the same product. I came to the conclusion that picking a company was a bit of a minefield. As for the choice of wrap material, again I think it could be a bit of a minefield. Decided to stick with a high quality product 3M.
Because the car is black and there are plenty of other black trim details I decided not to do the door shuts (I haven't taken any pictures of the door shut that if anyone is interested more than happy to do so).
Very pleased with the end result.

That looks stunning, thx for taking the time to do that writeup.
I also like that it's a vibrant colour but not glaringly obvious it's a wrap.
What did they tell you about the longevity on it?
Thanks, I was aiming for it to not look glaringly like a wrap. I really just wanted it to look as if it was a colour that could have been supplied out of the factory. I also wanted a vibrant colour. Seriously considered a green metallic. I really like the colour from the Porsche range and found a vinyl company that is doing one that is supposed to be an exact match, but ultimately wasn't brave enough to go down the green metallic route.I also like that it's a vibrant colour but not glaringly obvious it's a wrap.

The colour is very similar to the range Rover sport SVR colour, or possibly the I pace launch edition colour.
In terms of longevity, I have been told to treat it like paintwork in terms of waxing and polishing. I was told that if you look at the vinyl under a microscope it's full of microscopic holes which is designed to let the air out when it's being applied to the car. I was told these holes will fill up with fine dirt and therefore was advised to put a coat of wax on right from the outset. So as soon as it was home it had a good coat of wax and a DIY ceramic coat. Since then it's done about 9,000 miles through the winter having been washed weekly, but no wax top up as of yet - may just put a coat of wax on it over this weekend. So far lasting really well.
I will say that the vinyl definitely isn't quite as good a finish as decent deep paint job, when you get really close to it you can definitely tell. But once your couple of feet away it's really hard to distinguish between paint and a good quality wrap.
