Actually what it confirms is Tesla have figured out how to game the EPA system. The P Model S has now an EPA rated range of over 350 miles, but real life range at 75mph is sub 250 miles.

Tesla have done to the EPA EV rating system what VAG did with emissions testing. The apprentice has overtaken the grandmaster.
That's unnecessary hyperbolic. In the recent Carwow where they did the big test, tesla did no worse than the others relative to the rated miles. Only outlier was the Kia iirc, that did almost it's rating. Everyone else was around 80% off the sticker range.
https://www.carwow.co.uk/blog/ultimate-electric-ca...

It's similar to a car claiming 5L/100km actually doing 6L.

The high speed test was favorable for the Taycan and less so for the Tesla, I'm pretty sure it's an easy feat to do the reverse (EG city traffic?).

As the EPA rating isn't based on range at 75mph why would anyone expect it to hit that number?

Did anyone buy an ICE car and expect it to get manufacturers mpg at 75mph?

It will be interesting to see the dragtimes head to head when it is released , should be soon.
I hope they'll be testing the Model S Performance against the Taycan 4S due to the similar price point? Already find all of the comparisons being made between a large 5 seat executive saloon and a 2+2 GT a bit silly but comparing the £92k MSP with the £140k Turbo S would seem even more pointless?

In all fairness, when was the last time that anyone averaged 75mph in the U.K.? Mostly the average (for me, certainly) seems to be 5x mph. And I tend to set cruise at 80, so that suggests a lot of my driving is at 30/40 mph, maybe 50. I think the lower speeds will suit the single-gear Tesla, rather than the two-speed Taycan.

Can't we just be grateful that finally Tesla have some competition and appreciate that both cars are awesome!?

Totally agree that both cars are awesome. I think the competition thing is being massively overplayed by the press though at the moment.

The EV Macan vs the Model Y will be where it gets really interesting.

Not available yet and likely to be a very niche product compared to the Model 3?

Like above when the BMW i4 arrives it'll get much more interesting.

Agree, model Y will shake things up quite a bit.

Model S vs Taycan isnt really a good comparison both are different classes of vehicle and wouldnt normally be compared.

Looking at specs and price, it seems to be a three way battle between Model Y, Mach E and Polestar. Hadn't considered the Macan yet.
Some exciting times ahead.
Doing the numbers for some big car companies, I'm curious to see how they are going to make it work financially...

IMO the electric XC40 and the polestar SUV will be the other ones, the polestar 2 not so much.

Assume the maccan will have the taycan ppe platform used?

Ok, Polestar SUV? I guess it’s coming, will be a “taller” 2 with a £5k premium? Will the world’s facination with SUVs make the premium worth it (better residuals, lower PCP monthlies - but less range?).

Saw the Taycan at the Toronto auto show yesterday.

It didn’t look out of place on the Porsche stand at all. Shame you couldn’t actually climb into one.

I think there will be plenty of them on the roads here in short order.

Polestar 3, a coupe SUV :/

I think the taycan will sell about as OK as an expensive 4 seater panamera thing is expected too, certainly not in the 20,000 pa they initially said

According to this report Porsche are doubling production to 40k a year given demand for the car.

Much like Tesla, why have they decided to go with the non SUV model first (although it is at least a hatchback)?

Had it been the Polestar 3 being released this year I could see it having a much bigger affect on Model 3 sales with the general popularity of SUV's and possibly stolen a march on the Model Y?

I've started seeing them on the road here in Switzerland. Porsche were sponsoring a food festival in my village in Jan and had a light blue Taycan giving guests rides between events (amongst a lot of other cars). I've just seen one (dark blue) following a Panamera driving through town. A few of the hotels have 'Porsche destination chargers'.

Your last sentence reminds me of

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hvbi3ry3Vr8

Remind me when the last Porsche was a flop Rob?

When was the last Porsche that made no money and was a flop?

The model 3 might be a flop in 2020 when Y comes out wink It's the same car but better .....

And going back to

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hvbi3ry3Vr8

Saw this whilst watching the Tesla stock ticker ... same bloke

Apparently they are asking him what his outlook is for Tesla on that video.

I've not watched it but I guess it is like what Pooh Bears outlook on honey is.

Favourable.

Yep, it's Model Y v Model 3. For Tesla buyers heartstrings.

And Model Y v VW Id3 /4 for people not tied to the Elonosphere.
