Hi all

Wanted to ditch the euro 5 diesel Volvo for a bit now for obvious reasons.

Spotted a very good deal on leasing I pace through salary sacrifice at work (£310/month net pay for 12000 miles PA, for the S). Test driven one and its very nice.

No one has really mentioned them on the forum for some time. On paper they sound great but I'm aware they haven't sold well and thats probably why the lease deals are so good.

I'm a bit twitched at a few things:

- boot space for a family of four (the other car is currently an A3)
- charging speed and availability of compatible fast chargers
- JLR's infamous reliability

Anyone with one that can comment? Any other thoughts?

Thanks.

I see more of them around than S/Xs these days. A few colleagues have them, similar number of issues as I've had in our Tesla, one car was bricked at delivery and the owner was in a FF RR for a few weeks till they sorted it out.

Find a good deal and I don't think your be disappointed, just plan ahead for long road trips - probably easier to just take the A3.

I've had one now for 6 months.

In terms of reliability, it has been faultless. It feels very well put together (but that is probably because it was done by Magna Steyr rather than JLR).

Boot size isn't great due to the roofline but I would imagine it would be larger than an A3.

Overall I think it is a great car - smooth, comfortable and swift.

Thanks both.

It'd be replacing an XC60 which can take a lot of stuff for a car with a not massive footprint. Hence my concern.

Borrowed one for 2 days the other week. Loved it. Great car, nicer to drive than the Model S, and nicer to sit in.

Sadly, it doesn't have the range I need so if I do get an EV in the next year it'll probably be a Model 3 LR AWD.

Incidentally, does that price you've got already factor in the upcoming drop in BIK or will it get lower again when that takes effect?

Got one 3 mths ago, reliable so far, wouldnt buy one without air suspension, as even with it, its a worse ride than our xj, stereo is brilliant (Meridien surround), lights (matrix) are fantastic, auto wipers are st but guess update will fix. we’re not boot users so cant comment really, bought for the dogs who sit in hammock on back seat.

Great performance and handling, 200 mile range suits us, always charges overnight on 7kw, charged once at 107kw which took 40mins when 40mile range was left.

App is good, remote heating or cooling is brilliant, i can leave cold shopping in car on hot day and keep it cool while in gym biggrin

Far far better than tesla, but tesla have their charge network which is a biggy to many people.

Ah, sorry, I misread the reference to the A3.

I think you might have a bit of an issue with the boot. When I initially looked at the spec sheet for the available luggage space I thought it would be really good. In reality, whilst it is a big car, the luggage space is only "fine". The main issue is the slightly unusual boot shape with the sloping rear boot lid.

It is honestly fine in most cases. But I've kept my old s-max as a third car, as that car is ridiculously capacious, just in case.

I've had one for 4 months and 5000 mls so far .
No reliability issues - some software type glitches but none that don't sort themselves out .
Range never better than 201 miles and to get that you need to drive at 70 mph on the motorway . I don't do many long trips in it so not an issue and the charging points I have used at 50kw/h worked well , no issues .

Fit and finish good , no rattles or squeaks .

Boot fine for our family of 4 but I guess it depends how old the children are and what tat that brings ...
Drives very nicely `.

We have an E-tron coming in a few weeks to replace the wife's i3 and it will be an interesting comparison .

I wouldn't hesitate to have another i pace but then the range limit isn't a big issue for me so it does depend on how you intent to use it .

This statement is based on your extensive Tesla ownership experience I assume? And which Tesla are you comparing it to BTW?

Not knocking the I-Pace just to be clear, it's a lovely thing and was very temepted to get one myself earlier this year, but without having driven a comparable Tesla over a similar period statements like yours above are a bit silly?

Wow, how many miles are you doing in a day? Say you do 500 miles a day, which is 8 hours on the road in good conditions, a Model 3 LR AWD will save you about 20 minutes of charging time. To save 20 minutes you get a much smaller, noisier, less comfortable, more expensive (on lease) car.

The Model 3 LR only really makes sense if you regularly do between 250 and 300 miles in one session. Is that you?

As a previous Jaguar owner I really wanted to make the i pace work, so I had one for a day.
200 miles is it's real range. And that's what I often do in a day, it's just too close for comfort.

On top of that, it is really expensive. So expensive that a well equipped one is well into Tesla Model S territory. And it pains me to say it, but the Model S is just so much better in almost every way except for off road capabilities.

Same thing goes for the E tron, but that's even more expensive.

May delivery I think, with the 0%.

Agh! Thanks though! 5 and 9 so volume of tat is reducing,

I think it is expensive to buy, and I wouldn't dream of actually buying one. But at £310/month for all running costs bar electricity with no deposit....

I don't think range will be an issue. Once or twice a year it might be an hours inconvenience. As an example, this year, Leeds->Birmingham Airport. Would have had to charge on way home at end of a long redeye flight which wouldn't have been great. Unless there's some kind of valet park and charge service at airports these days?

However I worry more whether all the suitcases would have fitted! Roofbox is probably an answer. Interestingly two colleagues are also looking but one has an A6 Avant as second car and the other a T5 Camper.

Hmmm, decisions decisions.

Re the boot size, I do like a car with a very big boot, so maybe I'm more on the demanding side.

However, if I had the option of one for £310/month, I'd take it, as it really is an excellent car overall for that amount of money.

Overall, 6mths between Model s & x in 85 & 100 guises, not been in one since 2018 mind.

Ipace is a better car imo, better built, better value, nicer interior.

Tesla wins customers mainly with their charge network imo.

making assumptions is a bit silly though wink

Does it actually matter what people think of different EVs?

OP wants advice on an iPace, which is a great car. JLR are about as good as Tesla when it comes to reliability, and am pretty certain a Kona/eNero would be far more reliable.....But most people also know a Honda Civic is more reliable than a BMW 3 series yet people still buy BMWs insteads of Hondas.

Limitations of all EVs still apply for range/long distance trips - regardless of what EV fanatics claim. But with an A3 as well on the drive, that doesn't matter.

Surely a quick trip to the dealer will sort out the boot concern issue?

I've stood and stared at the boot space for while. Find it hard to visualise, short of turning up with a bunch of suitcases.

I know its smaller than the XC60, and I also know that everyones requirements vary. Just looking for thoughts, the fact that other families of four find it ok is reassuring for example.

Sounds like the charger network is good enough, which was my other big concern.

All responses appreciated.

Fwiw, as someone who loves a big boot, and with two small children, I thought the ipace boot was adequate.
Felt bigger than the Q5.
It felt really well put together, but I found interior options eyewateringly expensive.

HaHa, surely there is your answer smile.

Cannot you get a 1-2 day demo in one from a dealer and see how you get on?

I had a XC60 loaner for about 2 weeks when my Tesla was been fixed at the dealers, having also been in a iPace briefly the space felt comparable....

Oh your XC60 is one with a tractor engine and the autobox I can tell you within 10 meters of test driving any EV you will want to get rid!!

Its an opinion from an actual owner on a car the op is thinking about buying, does it matter? Well, i guess the op can ignore it if he likes smile makes no difference i guess smile

Maybe if you provide some useful info the OP has asked about like boot space??

Whats with EV owners? Never even seen Porsche owners get so aggressive so quickly!
