Hi all,

I recently purchased a. Golf Mk6 2.0 TDI GT it's 2009
It has 96k on the clock 1 previous owner and FSH its in amazing condition inside and out has the cambelt and water pump done at 87k. No mot scares
I drove it home and the glow plug light started to flash and loss of power.
I used my obd scanner and tourqe app it stated p0299 power train control module ..
I took it back to the garage they investigated and said it was egr cooler so had that replaced And I went away it then did the same thing glow plug light and loss of power. They are looking into this again. I wanted to know should I just try to get my money back or once they have fixed it keep the car I've read these egr coolers and bits are expensive so if they fix this the car should be trouble free ?
I really like the cAr it's in great condition I'm thinking it's best to have this one with all the bits repaired ..can this cause further unknown damage do you recommend I keep it once repaired .. is there anything else I should be worried about.?

I should say they are doing all repairs for free

Thanks for all your answers help in advance

if the garage are repairing it with no cost to you then i don't think you are in a position to reject and ask for your money back just yet.

Are they providing you with a replacement vehicle when the Golf is in being repaired?

The EGR coolers are a bit of a pain on the CR engines to replace. The dealer price for the job is over £1K. The part is about £400 and it's about 6-8 hours labour.

Also these are the emissions scandal engine. If you google, there are lots of stories of EGR issues occuring after the 'fix' was done. Any evidence in the service history of if/when the fix was done?

Thanks for the prompt reply ,

I see nothing in the service schedule relating to the fix being done at all just the standard maintenance. All been carried out by VW. Maybe I could contact be and find out ?

The garage is fully prepared to fix the car no matter of cost. I've read if they have replace the cooler it should like like 80k . They haven't give me another car while this one gets fixed I'm just nervous if they fix it could the problem have caused any engine damage I see plenty of these with 120k 150k on them.

Are they any other known faults on these models ?
Thanks again

maybe try this link on the vw site to check if the emissions fix has been done. Failing that i'm sure the service desk at any vw dealer should be able to tell you

The fix makes them worse. On the 1.6 we have seen some where it loses injectors ... they are still there but electronically it goes tits up.

Great 🙄 I've just checked a few on auto trader Hugh milage ones lie over 110k on them 8 have had it done and 5 haven't so I'm hoping it won't ruin the engine some had done 160k miles with the fix applied I'm really unsure what do so but if they are replacing / fixing surely I'll get some life out if it ?
