Charging speeds look a little disappointing to be honest. First off, only 100kW peak, and then reading in to a quote from your link:

"In only 30 minutes, the ID.3 Pro will harvest enough electrical energy to cover a distance of approximately 290 km, thanks to its 100 kW onboard charger."

So approx. 180 miles of range in 30mins. Based on the consumption figure of 4.5mi/Kwh (58kWh battery, not sure if thats total or usable, and 261 mile WLTP range):

180/4.5 = 40kW/0.5h, so 80kW average over what looks likely to be 10-80% SoC?

OK I guess but I was hoping for more. I mean looking at the 77kWh battery, 100kW is less than a 1.3C charge rate.

Of course maybe my fag packet maths are wrong and I'm an idiot smile

"It features a comprehensive list of standard equipment including: 18-inch steel wheels"

That's... interesting. Any news yet on what it's going to cost in the UK?

Have they finished replacing the software on all the ones they've already built?

It's pretty common to ramp up manufacturing of things with complex embedded systems before the software is ready then update it before (or even after) shipping to customers. Maybe it's new to the automotive industry but there's plenty of precidence for it elsewhere.

"Pro" is so 2008. I remember getting a "Smart Ruler Pro" app for my phone back then.

Apart from the name it looks quite good for the money though. Hopefully they can get production volumes up.

Tesla killer lol. Specs don't even come close to Tesla and there is no charging network for it.

Not sure it was ever supposed to be a tesla killer?

Ionity is building out but the costs even with a monthly sub are high for the id3

The cheapest Model 3 is €15,000 more expensive than the cheapest ID.3 in Germany. What did you expect?

The Model 3 is a competitor for the 3 series and C class. The ID.3 is a Golf/Focus segment car, a much much bigger market.

Agreed. Any more than the Golf is a BMW 3-series killer.

I'm still pretty happy that I cancelled my pre-order for ID.3 1st Edition.

Going to wait a bit longer & see how the software issue settles down, and then see how the specs compare for the line-up.

Really want the cheapest possible version of the 77kWh version.

I'd like an option over an model 3. For what its worth, the model 3 feels like a focus/golf to me, so a cheaper id3 makes sense.

That's right, me to, but unfortunately the battery is where all the cost is. So they will bundle lots of stuff which cost them next to nothing like big wheels/brakes, s/w based gadgets etc, to justify a much higher price.

Will be interesting to see what the real charging speed is. "100kW" probably means 75kW for a few minutes and then tapering off.

Which isn't terrible or anything, as long as it's not like the Leaf.

Yeah but it's a fraction of the price.

Base Model 3 in the UK is about £41k with tax. If the base model of the ID is sub €30k then in the UK with grant you could be looking at close to £20k for one, literally half the price of a Model 3.

That's why it could be a "Tesla killer". Well not really a killer, but people who can't afford £500/month PCP or who only have cash/trade-in for a £20k car and want VW build quality are obviously going to buy one (or two) of these.

Tesla basically screwed up the Model 3 pricing, the original £27k promise went out the window and it's now a luxury car well out of most people's price range.

You're not going to be able to get an ID3 for anywhere near £20k, at least not unless VW are willing to make a huge loss on it. I suspect the base price will be just below £30k for the entry level car.

VW have long suggested that price would be comparable with an equivalently specced diesel Golf.

The closest spec combination I could see available on the Mk8 runs to about £28k. But this doesn't include some option not yet available that I could see, like ACC, lane assist, etc. So would expect to be able to spec a diesel golf to £30k+ to macth the ID.3 level. Thus giving VW that sort of entry price as an option.
