My only gripe, and it's a personal thing, the steering wheel looks a bit 1980's.

9.9 1/4 mile sprint is just remarkable for any car, let alone a standard family car.

Charging stations for me would now become irrelevant with a range of 500 miles.

The slides I have seen about the motors... 73kg and 620 hp? but then later they show 3/4 different models with up to 670 hp, 800 hp and 1080 hp - all dual motor setups (and I think then there will be a triple motor one with even more!)

It makes me think the headline 620hp is basically a perfect conditions peak or over-boost performance level that isn't always possible.

Still, its bloody impressive. 73kg for motor, inverter and gearbox and it can do that kind of power output? imagine fitting that to something like an aerial atom or a motorbike?

It's got 1100bhp and costs £170k. Standard family car?

It’s standard ie not modified and it is a family car.

What would you call it?

Yeah, when you put it like that.... what a world we live in! It was only a few decades ago that 300BHP was regarded as powerful in a standard sedan car!

And yes, $169k for it? Yeah, thats really out of the realm for 98% of the population and does render it pretty meaningless for vast majority of people. And for the 2% that can afford it, are they going to want this thing? Or would prefer something more 'flashy' or has a bigger brand? It almost feels horrible to say this, but I can see people spending $100k on a car, but jumping up from there reduces the potential buyer pool and usually means they have an existing fleet of special cars. Is this special enough?

It was more a comment on why a <10 second 1/4mile time in a car with 1100bhp should be considered so impressive despite the number of doors/seats it has.

I think the base Air seem the best PHer spec: rwd, 480bhp, 400miles and $70k. It’s the one that I’m excited for anyway.

As a test bed for developing BEV technology it makes a lot of sense. As a means of transport it makes absolutely none. If anyone thinks that I am biased, I think that every modern Bugatti is even more pointless. The prewar Bugatti Royale engine finally found its niche in powering railcars, so there is some hope yet.

Comfortable, quiet, elegant, safe, long-legged, and essentially free fuel. And dispatches dawdlers with aplomb as and when requested.

The opposite of pointless for me. It's everything I want in a daily.

That's funny, I was actually looking at their website this morning.

From what I can see they have not started deliveries yet though?

They are still taking deposits, I hope they can build and sell them and make a profit. They look much nicer than a Tesla model S.

its an interesting car, a bit slower than the S and quite a bit more money

I would like to see the new S's revised interior to see if its as improved as the utoobers say it is

I thought the top model Air was in the same performance ball park as the Model S Plaid ? I did see a video of the Plaid out accelerating it but it isnt the Lucid Air is slow, its just how utterly manic the Plaid is, the Lucid will still be quicker than 99.9 percent of cars out there.

There is a video of a drag race between them, and an E39 M5 over the quarter mile, the M5 has a head start, in that it is moving at 70 mph and the other two from a standing start, the Plaid wins, which is mind boggling.

That I just had to see for myself.

OK, it's only a E39 M5, which by today's standards is not exactly fast, but still, this is incredible to watch!

This was a really interesting video on it, not just about the car but the market and the approach the company has taken.

I really hope they can get in to production, but it is quite a jump from a couple of test vehicles to a working production line that can make the cars efficiently and at the right price to turn a profit.

Here's hoping, s they are fine looking machines.
