He's going for the one way record? I thought that was usually done on a windy day.

Basically just a lottery on whether you make it to the end on those roads in the rain.

My thoughts too. I saw a picture of him riding through the weather on what looked like the M1. Bit daft tbh although he did appear to have a following car with a flashing beacon.

I imagine there's actually loads of people that would beat this time quite comfortably, but yeh, it's a bit of a death-wish IMO. He did 270 for 3 hours, so its far from superman stuff.

I'm absolutely certain that any number of people here could smash that record out the park, I mean what could be easier than riding with a tailwind.

Maybe there are plenty of people that could beat it. But.

The previous record stood for c.27 years.

The ctt 100 record is 3h13’37”

Maybe all those faster 100 riders just aren’t motivated by records? That must be it.

Maybe Jon’s new record will tempt a few more out to have a go. If anyone broke his record, he’d be one of the first to congratulate them.

Jon used to be a member of HIgh Wycombe CC and one evening a few years ago he rocked up for the weekly chan gang. He never came off the front, dishing it out, and the rest of us just about hung on, suffering mightily for 30 miles.

He was on his round the world touring bike (a converted MTB). With panniers. rofl

Would have thought he may go earlier, was blowing a proper gale this morning and seems to have calmed down a bit.

It'll get dismissed as 'not that difficult' by some, but averaging 54kph/34mph for 3 hours is some going.

Especially when you consider the fastest ever Grand Tour TT was by Rik Verbrugghe, 58.874 km/h, 7.6 km prologue time trial 2001 Giro d'Italia.

Rubén Plaza only managed 56.22 km/h over 38.9 km at the 2005 Vuelta a España.

It is some going without doubt but Grand Tour riders aren’t being hauled along by a constant stream of wagons & cars on their right shoulder. Riding a bike on roads like that seems a bit daft.

The bloke did 270w last time, Ganna probably takes half an hour off this time hehe

Be interesting if one of the quicker national riders has a go, can see it appealing to Dan Bigham, prob do mid 300's and very slippery. But I do think having seen the twitter videos that most people would say its too dangerous. But I'm sure some of the time trials I've done over the years probably aren't much different traffic wise.

Mid-300s for 2.5/3.0 hours though...??

He's know for being about to hold 40kph for an hour at about 180-200w.
