I’m currently look for my first EV as a business car and was hoping for some advice.
Atm, I lease a 530d estate which is due to go back in August. My accountant contacted me a few weeks back and advised that It would be tax beneficial to start looking at EVs for my new car due to the low BIK rates so I started looking.

At first I looked at the Porsche Taycan, which I really do like but the 28k additional extras for items that I consider pretty basic made me start to look elsewhere. I’ve then come across the Audi Etron S, and now GT but the real world battery range is only 200miles.

I travel from Manchester to London a couple of times a month so would need it to do at least 250 miles, ideally 300 but the more I read and research, the less I think I’m going to find something, other than the Tesla’s which I don’t like.

Is there any other cars out there that have this type of range?

The answer isn't that simple with an EV

see https://ev-database.org/car/1204/Hyundai-Kona-Elec...

vast difference in range depending on various factors

Mercedes EQC? It won’t do 300 miles on a single charge though, range is about the same as a taycan.

Come on - what's in that £28k of "pretty basic essentials"?? You're only coming out of a mainstream diesel barge.

Tesla 3LR or the new ModelS is your only choice really if you need that range, you do get access to the Tesla charging network too as a bonus.

Test drive them if you're unsure.

Wild card... the ENiro (or it's clones)? It will do 250miles, probably the second best to Tesla in range terms and a hell of a lot cheaper.

I haven’t seen the mustang, I’ll check that out. The EQC looks a bit plain.
I’m currently looking at the ETron GT but again the mileage isn’t great on these.

My thoughts exactly. Heated seats, folding mirrors, bigger wheels, adaptive cruise control, bigger battery. This must have account for £15k or so.

OP: there's nothing currently in the UK market that can be relied on to travel 300 miles between charging with a cabin as nice as a Beemer, Merc, Audi or Porker. Sure, some EVs can go 300 miles on a charge in summer, but if you're set on reaping the benefits of EV driving, you should accept the fact that you'll usually be recharging after closer to 200 miles.

That’s what I’m beginning to realise tbh. For my business needs I need a minimum of 250miles between charge including motorway miles.
Are there any good top end hybrids with low BIK values?

If you're doing that mileage Tesla is the only realistic option due to the amount of charging needed for anything else, but you said you don't like them.

Another idea would be get any EV you fancy and just rent yourself a car a couple of times a month and save a shedload of cash every month.

BMW x5 plug in hybrid is very low BIK but I dare say will burn more in petrol on a long run than the hire car option would cost you.

Taycan 4S has been tested at almost 300 miles of range at 70mph and will charge at very high speeds should it be required. This is summer range though so expect closer to 250 in winter.

https://www.carscoops.com/2020/04/porsche-taycan-4...

The E-Tron GT is pretty much identical but cheaper and better equipped as standard so looks like it might fit the bill? Spending half an hour a couple of times a month charging is surely worth it for the massive BIK saving even if not quite perfect?

Not sure how you are spending £28k on 'essential' options for the Taycan BTW? What are you adding?

Here's my preferred spec with bigger wheels, sports seats, folding mirrors, sport chrono, performance battery, reversing camera, adaptive cruise, matrix headlights and passenger display. £12.5k of options. How are you adding more than double that? eek

ETA - ABRP reckons 6 mins charging to get you there and 34 coming back in current conditions.

He's looking for an EV with long range? P2 is going to struggle to better 200 miles according to every test I've seen, even the one they commissioned themselves?

Just throwing this out there. What %age of your total miles does the London-Manchester trip make? Only, if it’s just a small amount, then perhaps not skew your car choice towards this too much and consider using alternatives (assuming you’ll even have to go at all/as much in future, WFH and all that should it apply? Said alternatives being train, hire car, or taking it on the chin and charging en route?

Agreed. However the 'quality' will match that of his 530.

I think its Porsche as the only option. Or he buys a nearly new used 'engined' car?

The new Model S claims a range of 520 miles and it's the quickest car in the world, new interior might persuade you? Similar price to the Taycan.

Even the standard Plaid model wont be in the UK until spring next year.
