Launched a little earlier today;

Video here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTiI1XPElK8

Some interesting kit, two battery sizes, 58kWh and 72.6kW, and and two drive options, rear or all-wheel drive. The one with the most range (72.6kWh rd) supposedly has approx. 300 miles on a charge, while the fastest one (72.6kWh awd) can do 62mph in 5.2 seconds.

I think the styling is a good mix of retro and future, really nicely proportioned.

Hmm, it's not bad looking I think it's a shame they've done away with the fast-back profile and built what looks to be a more conventional hatchback.

Any indication of when it'll be released? I'm guessing not this year?

Looks good but I need more range.

Although to be fair Hyundai seem to get much closer to the claimed range than some others.

They said UK in the middle of 2021.

That looks quite good. Your pics made it look like a golf rival to me, but watching the video it seems to be more SUV sized, (maybe more of a Tiguan rival).
I chuckled when it was said in the video that the styling was inspired by the Hyundai Pony yikes

Looks Golf (or at least ID3) sized to me.

I wonder whether it'll be priced above or below the Kona.

ETA: First-edition ‘Project 45’ models will cost £45,000 when they go on sale in the UK in summer 2021. I guess that's for the larger battery pack, but still ouch!

Looks mega on the outside, shame the interior was inspired by the Nintendo SNES

Externally, likely an ID3+ contender, but internal space is huge, due to the 3m E-GMP platform wheelbase, which is more typical of large SUVs.

Isn't that also true of the ID3 and its platform?

That seems quite low. The Kona is 64kWh usable (around 68kWh gross) and can do 300 miles on a charge. The old Ioniq was even more efficient, not least because it was quite low and flat compared to the Kona's crossover shape.

Given the size of the battery unless this is much taller (doesn't look it) I'd have expected considerably more range.

Edit: It's 800V as well, so super fast charging. 10-80% in 18 minutes apparently, should be considerably quicker than Tesla who are stuck on 400V.

It'll be interesting to see what the entry price point is. If they want to compete with the ID3 it probably needs to be around £30k; certainly under £35k.

I think this looks great, I am sure it will get very close to the claimed range as well as the Kona is very efficient I believe.

Indeed, ID3 wheel base is about 2.8M, and the same will be true of most EVs, as the motor/powertrains take up far less space than ICE. With batteries under the floor you can position the wheels and associated componentry at the extremities of the vehicle. Stating the bleedin' obvious, I know!

Thankfully it looks like the only design influence the Pony has had is the C-Pillar!

This is the size of an SUV, not a golf/ID3

I think because it looks like a scaled up hatchback it appears small, but it is not.

Yeah, I guess this is more aligned with the ID4 or Skoda Enyaq, so a 'jacked up' version if you will. The ID4 and Enyaq have the same wheelbase as the ID3 as they're all built on VWs MEB platform.

Interestingly, Ford will start to use the VW MEB platform in the next couple of years.

Yes it seems to be 40cm longer and 8cm wider than the ID3 so it's a pretty big car. Not really a replacement for the current Ioniq then but rather just a reuse of the name.

It is indeed almost exactly the same size as the Enyaq.

I think that would look bloody awesome in a matt silver, seems like they have all the must have boxes ticked here and perhaps are underestimating the mileage as I agree it seems low.

300 miles sounds believable given how big it is. It's nearly as big as the ECQ which does far less range with significantly more battery.
