Hi all,

4 of us are planning on going to Le Mans next year and camping with team langoustine.
I was planning of buying a barge/shed/camper/dayvan a few months before and then selling it when I get back.
I have a £3500 budget and my current shortlist is:

P38 Range Rover
Jag XJR
BMW 7 series
Chevrolet Astro day van

Any other suggestions?

Loving the roller and bently but I think the 8 series would be a bit small in the back for the long drive

The xjr will be a tight squeeze the boot is small and 4 bags will fill it without room for tents/gazebo/chairs etc. go for a big estate perhaps a MG ZTT V8 you should geta good one for that sort of money

You know the mG ZTT is not a v8? And you wont get a v8 version of the ZT for that sort of money, maybe double that.

We got our sub £500 Clios to the TL site this year and they've now been sold on quite easily! I obviously think your budget is way too high for a challenge....

Why not go for a big estate like a Volvo 960/Ford Scorpio with the the largest motor you can find, cheap as chips, leather and loads of space for everything plus zero street cred to boot! Gendarmerie won't give you a second glance.

Not sure what we'll end up with this coming year but suspect they'll be quicker than the Clios.

They did the V8 in both 4 and 5 door versions and the rover versions as well, there is a MG v8 estate on autotrader at £7k but I have seen several mg and rover v8's at well beow £3.5k

A few years back we did a cheaper version of this, and I ended up getting an old 7 Series (E32 735). Original budget crept up from the original 500 quid, and I ended up spending 1,800.

The theory was that I'd buy something cheap, use it for Le Mans and then sell it. Well, suffice to say that didn't work out... I've still got the car !

The moral of this story is to be careful - wafting along in a big comfy barge is surprisingly addictive !! hehe

I doubt you'd get a £3500 car very far up the grid at Le Mans. getmecoat

I'd hardly call that a budget car. That's more than the daily driver I've been running round in for the past 3 years!

I'd go for the Rangie option. 4 of you down there in waftie gorgeousness - plus plenty of space for camping kit.

Mine has been a couple of times in recent years!

Get a V8 and JUST DON'T LOOK AT THE FUEL BILLS....they are not important smile

Silly suggestion, but what about an old Renault espace and chop the roof off!
A lot lot less than the budget and probably quite a lot of fun (as long as it does not rain).
Take a 3mtr gazebo as a garage on site in case it fills up.

Would certainly be well received within the TL site.

Hahaha perfect! But what would the old bill be like if I got stopped and didn't have 4 seats?

How about a classic?

http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...

Or a bit of luxury? http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...

or in true PH style http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use... although I don't know how much kit it could carry.

If you can stretch the budget this would be amazing although I reckon you may want to keep it
