Hi
I have applied to marshal at lemans this year and wondered if anyone had any experience of driving on the interior roads of the circuit or if there is a way to get out if I end up on a post on the interior? I really want to get up to the museum and take in the village if I get time...
Thanks

There will be times when the roads are open for example Friday all day you can get about. I would expect that if it is your first time you will get posted at an easier spot to get in and out. They get a lot of applications so you usually only work 6hours of the 24hour.

Some posts I guess are locked in but they always seem to have caravans etc on post.

Those that live within the closed zone get 'Riverain Interior' (internal residents) passes for their cars (one per household IIRC) so I would expect that Marshalls working within this zone would get something similar.

Aiden, simple answer is that you'll get a car pass.

Your hardest task will be getting through the roundabouts close to Beausejour. Lots of speccies.

All marshals also get a hard card that is barcoded and unique to you. At various places in the circuit there will be staff with scanners - you'll only get past them if you have the correct access rights.

Alasdair btw

If you are marshalling anywhere from the 1st chicane to Arnage you will have a windscreen pass and your marshals badge. There is a control at Beauséjour roundabout and sometimes one on the way to Indianapolis and Arnage. You'll have no problems except the condition of the gravel roads unless the ACO is doing something about them this year. Really deep potholes everywhere. If you are at the 1st chicane I hope it doesn't rain because you may have to walk a quarter of a mile to get there. They ban cars because it gets so boggy. 2nd chicane is accessed from the outside. Usually the English are placed at Mulsanne or on the hump before Mulsanne if they don't speak French.

Aiden is possibly headed for the inside at Arnage. Old poste 100 - damned if can be bothered to look up the sector number.

Then the directions are:-

Go under Porsche Curves bridge towards Beauséjour, and at roundabout straight on although there will be a control. They'll take a casual glance at your windscreen pass and open the barrier to let you through. Straight on until you see a company called Sogameca on your left and football light pylons on your right. There is usually a control here too. Turn right and after the tarmac ends keep right at the fork in the two tracks. The left goes to Mulsanne bend, and the right to Arnage. It'll get very bumpy from now on! Further on there is a control and you turn right to Arnage, carrying on until you see a house directly in front of you where you turn left. The post is straight ahead and you'll be parking up with the marshals on the left short of Imdianapolis. There may be another route and camping direct to Arnage but I don't think so but since I pass by regularly I'll have a look.
