We didn’t have a Sky box, we usually go with about 20-30 lads (37 this year!) and it’s gets a bit full on at times.

Taking delicate electronic equipment was never a good idea so we grabbed a cheap universal dish and decoder from EBay and use that. Sky would be a much better option I suspect (as long as you can see the satellite) none of us were willing to risk ours though! smile

My apologies, I did not see the FTA eurosport on 19.2e. I would be interested to see the coverage of the 24hrs on this channel.
It's there - just German language. Covers most of the race and is FTA/Unencrypted. Just can't figure out why I can't get it! at 92% signal strength with a 120cm dish pulling back decent TV, it seems odd to me. Got a new LNB on order, maybe that'll do it?

Wow thats some dish, I used to have a 1.1m motorised setup for 3pm footy back in the day!!

I'll try tomorrow with my setup and see if I can clear it on my openbox.

We used to use it for Sky+ and bought it the year they narrowed the band to try to cut out anywhere that wasn't the UK. We heard a standard dish wouldn't cut it. If you could, I'd be grateful - I'm technical but even I'm feeling about in the dark a bit when it gets to this level of satellite tech!

Yep no worries, i'll get the ladder out later and set the dish up.

I’m also very interested in the result as my finger is hovering over the ‘buy’ button for some satellite kit for this year.

We've usually had Sky for going to Le Mans but this year we seem to not have access to a Sky box with an active subscription. Was thinking of just getting a Freesat receiver and watch Motorsport.tv but doesn't look as though they have live coverage. Are the options:

1) Freesat box / German Eurosport / Radio Le Mans
2) Freesat box / TVPlayer Plus add on / UK Europsort

Would an old Sky box be usable in place of a Freesat box for either of those options?

ETA: Looked more into TVPlayer Plus and you need a Humax smart box so that is out.

Gents,

As promised, here is Eurosport 1 Germany in the UK on 19.2e on a Zone 2 sky dish (60cm I believe) and a Skybox/Openbox. Thanks to tyre smoke for suggesting this. Beer owed.

If anyone needs a hand with any setup then I'm on Houx from Wednesday and will gladly lend a hand, i'll probably have a couple of box's for sale to watch Eurosport 1 Germany on also

Thanks. At least I now know it's my dodgy setup that's causing it. Got the new LNB in the post yesterday, will try again on Saturday.

Cracked it!
I bought a 2nd hand dish & box, & after a hour of wine fuelled fiddling I found the Astra 1L & Eurosport!
Bring on Le Weekend!

You're very welcome. Did you set that up with the box I posted a link to on the other thread? I'm still debating whether to get one or not.

I don't think so, I used a openbox v5s on this one in particular. Just a spare box I had lying around.

So having been shown it was still there I've ordered a new LNB. Once I'd finished pointing at Hotbird (as per rolleyes ) and getting dismayed at the lack of channels on 12226H, I managed 100% lock and 99% signal strength, then found it with no issue.

Thanks again to all.

We’re on Houx too, if we have difficulty this year I may give you a shout mate. We’re borrowing a Dutch Satbox one of the lads brought last year which we used to great effect.

We’re renting a draught beer set up again so if you see a large white Transit van with a big marquee at the back and fancy an ice cold draught beer just drop in and ask for Algie wink

The pub will be at the back of the marquee “Le Mans Cave” opening 13/06/2018!

Quick question- we’ve had the tv setup running on site before (tricky, but you get signal eventually) but this year we’re using a freesat box instead of sky - i’m assuming the sky dish will still work without a sky box, or is it worth getting a new universal 1m dish with freesat?

Thanx in advance

That's where I fell foul. The dish (and arm) are universal and the cable is universal too. When I tested it here last week for German Eurosport (Astra 19E) my LNB which was well suited to British Sky (Astra 28E) would get most of the channels from the 19E satellite cluster but wouldn't pick up anything on Astra 1L. I bought a new LNB from eBay advertised as suited for Astra 19 and it kicked in to life perfectly. Do check it before you go!
