All,

I am looking for some advice. My father's 70th is in July and i want to sort the two of us out with a little motor based trip at some point in the next year so i can present some tickets to him on the day. We have done Le Mans a number of times about 15yrs ago and said we must go back, so i was thinking the Le Mans Classic perhaps. Basically it needs to be a trip over a long weekend to either a race or classic car event and my budget is maximum £1k all in. So i'm expecting something within Europe. It doesn't have to be an event we drive to so could have a short flight somewhere potentially.

Looking forward to your suggestions, especially from those who have actual experience doing a trip they are suggesting.

The Silverstone Classic weekend is at the end of July. Most of the cars raced there would be from his era.

About 7 years to my 70th.
I'd rather the grand be spent on a high class we for a night or two in a good hotel plus good food and wine......

I think he would probably prefer that too but could be difficult to get it past his partner. Also creates a strange dynamic buying sex for a family member.

Apologies for the huge delay, and thanks for the suggestions.

As an update to this, i did a huge amount of research and settled on the Spa 6 hours in mid september.

Ticket prices are incredibly reasonable, shouldn't be millions of people like F1 and so it doesn't carry the same bonkers price tag. Accommodation in the lovely looking town of Spa was also pretty reasonable for a nice hotel.

For those interested i will try and remember to post some photos on here after the even and do a small write up.

I took my dad to the spa 6 hours for his 70th last year.

Great event, quiet spectator wise but means you can walk to track and paddocks with no trouble of hoards!

Plenty of beautiful villages around the area and we ate out at some lovely remote restaurants.

Good Choice!

I know its not Europe but the best motor event in the world (IMO) is the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Maybe do a little tour along the South Coast taking in such places as the Historic Dockyards etc.

Dah, I posted before I read your last post.
Have fun and if not been before, do check out Goodwood sometime

Sir - i went 3 summers ago for the first time with 3 mates. Amazing weather, almost too hot. As you say, what a great event. Totally brilliant. Loved camping nearby as well, a real mini Le Mans atmosphere. A lovely event that i will definitely return to. Glad i didn't park in the fields next to it though as motors were almost buried in dust.
