Is that the site behind the Porsche Curves spectator banking, back end of Beausejour? On race day? That is quietest I've seen it in a long while.Do people think Audi absence is making the difference?
It was still very busy around the start/finish straight around an hour before the start and I've just hobbled back to the campsite from Tertre Rouge and the crowds up there at 2:00am were still pretty big
We also cycled up to Indianapolis at about 10pm and the new banking was jam-packed and the roads were gridlocked.
I wouldn't be too surprised if numbers are down, but i don't think it will be by more than 10% or so

Eurosport reported attendance circa 260k so just as many as previous years. It could be that Brexit/ the very weak Pound has reduced UK attendance and since TK retired the Danish contingent has reduced too. I missed it this year for various family related reasons but will be back for 2018 I hope...

I did think it looked empty on the TV when they flew the helicopter over Porsche curves. As for MAD friday I agree with above sentiment that its not a loss it was completely mental first year I went 2014 people.
That was because of the World Cup.... It attracted a certain additional type of spectator. Unfortunately 2018 is another such year... At least they don't have another big football event in the intervening period between.... oh.Friday was as mad as ever IMHO. The only thing that was missing were the roadside burnouts egged on by drunken mobs which is no bad thing. I certainly never considered them an integral part of mad Friday and always managed to avoid them.
Plenty of other stuff going on Friday: Great British Welcome, Mulsanne car show, lunch and car spotting at Arnage, pit walk, people walking/cycling the circuit, drivers parade, Friday night party in town etc...
P.S. I found the lack of monolithic Audi hospitality facilities and fleets of Audi courtesy cars parked on every street corner quite refreshing. It was like going to a motor race again rather than an Audi product launch.

We were in our usual location in Houx.
There were clearly spare camping space in Houx. I did walk over to our old MB site, and saw how rammed they were !
We also had tribune seats not taken for the Start or Finish, not seen that before.
Walking around the circuit, it did appear to be quieter and less people mulling about.
