Two out of convoy of 3 had no aircon, one of those had no roof with no ability to escape the savagery of the sun and he can take the heat but gave in and put the roof on with an hour gone. On the move with the sunroof and windows open it was just bareable.

The heat was a killer for the whole holiday, still better than being anywhere else and as we know, the sun squares with beer so it just means drinking more, without cold beer it would have been unbearable, much like trying to sleep last night in Blighty, or how it will be on the morning train tomorrow.

Yep that was us who took a pic of you. I hadn't seen the John Prescott quote on the back before. Did make me laugh.

The Cerb was fine with the queueing, it was me who was getting worried enough to switch it off and push

Did the whole journey in the Cerbera with the windows open and air con off.
It wouldn't be a proper LeMans weekend without seeing a TVR with its bonnet up wink
I jest of course, lovely to see so many beautiful cars being used as intended.
Felt sorry for the bikers wearing leathers in that heat.

smile 'saftey bonnet up'. As I say the car was coping fine, it was me that was sweating and worrying about how damned hot it was under the bonnet.First for me to be driving with the bonnet up!

And yes we certainly used the car how it was designed to be used - we made 'progress' from the tunnel to Rouen without being stupid, just a bit of fun here and there. We then went off piste as usual and spanked it through some glorious countryside for 100+ miles. Brilliant

On top of having no working aircon (due to a cracked pipe) we managed to blow a hole in the rad of my Fathers MG ZS (lack of working engine fans the cause) on Blue Nord. We managed to bodge it well enough that it coped ok with peage speed to Rouen and then Dieppe. Then last evening we very nearly blew the whole engine up whilst stuck in rush hour traffic round Brighton. Windows down and heating on full (with the last egg cracked in the rad just incase) got him home; it left us both with dehydration and minor heat stroke.

One of our chaps. He said it was warm.

I have to confess I was a little relieved it was my turn to ride shotgun in my friends (air-con, if not effectively fan equiped) Tuscan this year, not his to ride shotgun in my Spitfire. Back to the Spifire for 2018 so may be feeling a little redder in 12 months time...

MX5 NA with the aircon disconnected.
Helpfully that means that the fan on the radiator which comes on when you switch the aircon on just acted as an aux fan so I wasn't too worried about the car overheating but to prevent me overheating I bypassed Rouen (via Yvetot) and then came off the autoroute at Wimereux and headed along the back roads to Calais. In fact the only traffic jam I got stuck in all day was Guildford bypass where a Mini had broken down in rush hour!

We covered 1105 miles for the whole trip in a TVR Chimaera, with each and every mile with the roof down, wasn't too bad when moving.

The worst part was at the end of the race, in the heat of the day and joining the traffic jams, no A/C and slow roasted with the roof on or off lol

We had a drive about most of the day as we were catching the Caen to Portsmouth ferry at 2300 on Monday. I don't think I have ever driven an open car in such conditions. My temperature gauge didn't drop much below this until we reached the coast and the temperature became reasonable.

I drank about 6 litres of water.

No aircon was actually fairly pleasant in an (old) XKR.... on the way back anyway (not so great on the drive down)

Did 1200 miles in total in the Griffith, there and back. Windows fully down for every single mile. Was hard work in traffic jams but the car was faultless. Would I have preferred to go
in a modern air conditioned car? Not a chance smile

2015 was my year for no aircon on the way home.
Silly issue with a wire disconnected from the compressor which I found when I got back! I lost a lot of weight as the windows do not open on my car!!!

This year, even in 37 deg (stayed until Thursday), my Ultima coped faultlessly with the engine not exceeding 93 deg, even sat in traffic, and the aircon managing to keep it bearable (it is never cold!). Even the jam leading to the Dartford crossing saw no problems.

Chuffed is an understatement.
