Hi

My mate has confirmed so we're on for the Le Mans Classic 2018

I am planning to get the 06:50 Eurotunnel which arrives at 08:25 France time with a view to meeting up with you 60 mins outside of Calais.

We will be in my BMW Z4M Roadster (hopefully with the roof down!)

My email address is: Rick.robinson@btopenworld.com.

Can't wait!

Rick

That’s great - there’s a few of us already booked on that crossing too, so we might cross paths before the meeting point.

Don’t forget the sun-cream!

Hi All, this sounds like fun but unless I'm a bit confused it will take 8 hours to get from the first meeting point to arrival or am I missing something?

Yeah, that’s about right. The aim isn’t to get to the circuit as quickly as possible, but to have an enjoyable drive down using some of rural France’s great roads. The route allows for breaks at meeting points, time for refuelling and a mid-afternoon lunch break.

Covering 250 miles, the stints from meeting points will be approximately, 2hrs, 1.5hrs, 1hr and 2hrs.

None of it will be on autoroutes.

I did 2006 in my van but not done the classic yet, I'm in, please send details when ready. Plenty of time to decide on Van or Lotus.

Hello Miner,

As I said, we will be on the P’mouth - Le Havre, I haven’t spoken to 1st tickets yet (post booking) so will ask for a crossing that allows me to meet the group in Limiseux (in good time).

I shall email / PM you now; subject Le Mans Classic.

First proper road trip in this car too.

Email received thanks.

Same here - the car I'm bringing hasn't been used since 2011 - My kids are having bets that it won't even make it to the Tunnel.

Thought I'd just give the thread a bump onto the first page with a quick reminder to those planning on using the Eurotunnel; you can use a 'popular' supermarket’s Clubcard vouchers at a rate of 3 times their value.

Quick update from me, the ferry I wanted to use was full, now on the Portsmouth-Caen and Vice Versa crossing on the 04/07/2018, I assume its a night ferry so will arrive in Caen 05/07/2018, I guess around 08:00 / 09:00 local!

Cant wait smile

There are two ferries on that date from Pompey to Caen.
The 08:15 daytime sailing which arrives at 15:00 and the 22:00 overnight which arrives in Caen at 06:45 local French time.
You will probably get off the boat around 07:00.
Hope that helps.

Sorry to go off topic, but do Teslas now have the range to do such a trip?

The Tesla has joined our group the last two years for the main race, constrained to autoroutes for superchargers but otherwise fine. Its impressive that it can do Wales - Le Mans with probably only a couple of hours extra on the journey time vs Internal Combustion.

I think if he joins this convoy he'd have to bring the TVR though!

A Tesla should be able to get there from Calais with a full charge. It would need some juice before it sets off back though. I don’t know what the range is like if you welly it a lot on the way down. I imagine you might have to be a bit more careful.

Total distance from Calais to Le Mans is 300 miles.

The initial 60 miles to the first meeting point is Autoroute and the services we’re meeting at have a bank of Tesla Superchargers. The remaining 240 miles are cross-country.

The next opportunity to charge will be 160 miles later at our lunch-stop in Falaise. I think it unlikely that there’ll be a charging facility here and from a quick Google search, the nearest Tesla Supercharger is 25 miles north in Caen. I’m planning on a 45 minute lunch-stop, before we hit the road again.

The remaining 80 miles to Le Mans are cross-country.

It sounds like it might be doable in the Tesla, but the TVR surely has to be the car of choice!

Is anyone else travelling with their wife / girlfriend?

We were discussing it last week and she is rather worried as to whether there are separate shower blocks or it’s all just shared?

We have never been camping ...

Staying at the PH / AMOC / TVR campsite ...

Not sure about the Classic, but the facilities at the main 24hr event are separate and the women’s blocks always cleaner due to fewer users.

I’d expect the shower blocks on the PH site to be separate, of a high standard and maintained frequently.

Hopefully someone who knows for sure can better advise...
