And we still don't have cars to get there in yet... yikes Will keep you posted on our plans once we've got something sorted. We'll hopefully be able to join you for at least part of the drive down!

Not long now.

This evening I have arranged breakdown cover, printed off the breakdown and car Insurance certificates and put them all in a special Le Mans folder with the car's V5 certificate and the Eurotunnel and Le Mans tickets. My excitement must have created this unprecedented outburst of organisation.

(The folder isn't really special - it's a normal one with Le Mans written on it!)

Pleased to hear that. After spending an inordinate amount of time googling document wallets for the trip, the thought of being 'out-foldered' is disturbing.

How are everyone's cars? Any last glitches to iron out, or nothing to do apart from check fluids and pressures?

My long list of works has finally had crossed off of it all items that 'have' to be completed just leaving a few items in the 'would be nice' to be completed column. The time has gone so quickly, originally having months to get things done since committing to the trip now down to the final weekend.

Really looking forwards to this now, see you all Thursday.

I’ve been using mine regularly over the past month... until this week, it refused to complete a journey without breaking.

The last few days however, I’ve arrived at my destinations with clean hands!

I’m now pretty confident that it’ll at least make it to Folkestone.

Only 1 week to go now!

Have you set off yet, as it's quite a walk? We'll report back how successful the PH Friday Service is if you don't make it in time!

Let me know if you still want to join us, it would be good having you along.

Good luck with the car blagging!

Ha well if you pass a group hitch hiking, that'll be us! At this rate we'll be taking the van, but will keep you posted.

I am very scared tbh, what breakdown cover are people using for 25+ year old cars abroad?

There's a thread here...

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

It might be worth calling your insurance company though... My classic car policy covers the car for any euro trips up to 90 days long. If yours doesn't, you may be able to upgrade?

Otherwise, it looks like the AA & RAC will provide cover.

We have a 4 car convoy (BMW 2002, Ford 100e Duratec, Porsche 924 and something else), travelling on Thursday from Calais. We would be interested in tagging along
Where are you camping? We would like to take a closer look at how your fellow fit the Duratec in the Ford. We are still running a dog-standard 1172 cc sidevalve engined 100E

RAC website was £77 (ish from memory) for their highest level of cover. Bought for £27 (again ish) quoting car club membership to them on the phone.
28 year old car.

Over the weekend I will put into practice my full array of automotive mechanical skills. I shall check the fluids and the tyre pressures! It will also get properly cleaned, something that I can do without adult supervision.

What iPhone navigation app would anyone recommended for route importing?

I have sort of done it in google maps, but its difficult to force the navigation on and it tends to re route to 'faster' routes and send back to autoroute!

I’m not sure why it’s not working.

If you’re running the Google Maps App, clicking on the links in the word doc will load the routes. I’ve added enough waypoints so it doesn’t matter how you’ve got your settings. Stage 1 is all autoroute. Stage 2 onwards avoid autoroutes. Seems to work fine on my iphone.

I’ll send you an email now with the links. Let us know if you’re still having issues.

Oh, and just a note for everyone - if you download an offline map to use on your device, it won't use up your data allowance.
