Arnage or no Arnage. That is the question!

Hey Folks,

Planning my 6th Le Mans journey this year but never managet to get to Arnage, for a variety of reasons. This year I would like to make more effort to get there, but is it really worth it? Some say the cars are so close and accelerating out is a joy... but is it any better than what I can see on the track?

It would be great to hear from your experiences, also the way to get there and what would be the best time wise. We arrive Thursday early afternoon (if lucky) to Beasejour camp so Thursday qualis could be an option.

I see these "trains" outside going up and down but never managed to fugure out they itinerary

It's worth it, but it's changed a lot over the years I've been going

The train to/from can be a pain in the arse, depending on the number of people queueing for it

Last year we got back to one of the stops from Arnage, where the trains all stop, and there was nothing more running to take us back up towards Maison Blanche, so you can expect that a very late night trip to Arnage may mean you have to hike back!

Arnage at night is my favourite part of the event.

Cars screaming down indianapolis on into arnage for the tight right hander is just brilliant.
Couple that with a dodgy merguez, some frites and a couple of beers... My idea of heaven

Getting there can be annoying though.

You could always visit in time for, or during, one of the midweek qualifying sessions, should be fewer people there so easier to get to.

There's also the viewing area at the Mulsanne Corner as another option.

The only time I've been to Arnage was when we all took old Skool BMX's and rode down.. superb and worth it!

Still one of my faviroute places is Tertre Rouge on the bank.. after Dusk with a hot dog frites and Vin Rouge.. can't wait!

Both Arnage and Mulsanne worth visiting. Many a cold night spent on the banks there over the years.

Arnage has actually improved for spectating since the recent work I think. Bit of pain whether by car, foot, bike etc but worth ticking off.

Arnarge and Mulsanne corners are great on Thurs evenings for night qualifying. Never been there during the race - CBA with the train and driving then is a nightmare.

The views and feel of the cars at arnarge is well worth it, but during the race it can be a long time to get there and back so as suggested try it first on the thursday qualy evening session, if you like it the you can try it during the race. make sure your allocated driver is sober as local police will be out in force and you will need your wits about you to follow the signs and or other people. The mulsanne viewing area is also worth a visit especially for the start of the straight were all the cars are going full blast.

Last year the busses from outside BSJ to Arrange and Mulsanne corner during the race were excellent , just check timing to ensuring that last one is noted and that if you are not on BSJ the petit train that takes you back to the main area stops around 11pm.

Just walk down there, it only takes about an hour each way from Bleu Nord.

Some help please.

I have been to Arnage corner twice over the years but not recently. I have been with someone who generally drives from Houx and knows his way. I havent got a scooby how to get there.

We are with Travel Destinations again this year on the Porsche Curves and we walk to Arnage Village on the Friday and have a glass of milk or orange juice or two.

The question is how do i get there from Porsche Curves and how long would it take to walk there please?

I did sunrise at Arnage last year. Was amazing atmosphere and got to see a crash. I drove there early in the morning from Beausejour. I was going to walk it (about 40 mins) but decided to drive. They have a parking lot there which made it really easy. I really wanted to get over to Mulsanne later in the day but buses were a bit busy and I was getting worried about not getting back to our grandstand seats for the finish. This year probably Mulsanne and Arnage during the day (maybe Saturday or first thing on Sunday) and sunrise at Dunlop.

From the roundabout at the Porsche Curves take the exit towards Arnage Village (Straight over), on the outskirts of the village there will be a left turn (there might even be a sign! - if you get to the level crossing you've gone too far) just follow that road and you'll get to the corner.

Manage to get there every year for sunrise. Roads are normally quiet around 4am.

Can't beat the noise and the glow of the discs. We'll worth getting down there.

Jenga, we may as well walk to the corner same as we walk (or beer scooter) to the village on the Friday? Quali may be the best option?

Take high Viz vests or torches if you'll be walking after dark, there's no footpath and it's very dark down there

TBH there are always cars and people heading down to Arnage and Mulsanne corner so you're not going to get lost.
Definitely recommend it as a good spot to catch some of the race from, and the atmosphere is very different to that of the main track.
Don't think that you'll try the walk in flip flops (no matter how much you've drunk) as its miles and your feet will hurt*

Thanks for all your valuable info guys! I think we will brave the walk before the night quali and presumably we will stop for some cold refreshment at Arnage Village on the way back ))

I'm staying with Thomas Cook and they had an option of getting a coach from the campsite to Arnage and Mulsanne and back.

It's from 1-3am, how much of that time do you think I'll be sitting in traffic and how much will be seeing the track?

It will be getting a little quieter by then, but could be 30 mins each way.
