OK we need to try, as best as we can, to compare apples with apples here.

You have quoted our single occupancy package for one person travelling via Eurotunnel, staying on our Premier Vert campsite (our premium package). This site is within the circuit (approx. 50m from the nearest viewing area) and is a package that covers one person staying with us from Friday to Monday and includes their channel crossing, entrance ticket, 3 x breakfast and 3 x evening meal. The nearest comparable Thomas Cook package, from their website, is £1,024, but doesn't include the channel crossing, although it does include food from Thurs AM to Mon AM.

If you were to compare this with our Bleu Nord single person package with food from Thurs AM to Mon AM, the total cost would be £795 +£32 for an additional days food. Which is still significantly less than the quoted Thomas Cook price we were able to find on their website.

However, there are many different ways (and costs) to doing Le Mans. This is a PistonHeads package that we have run since 2009 and there are many satisfied and returning PH customers.

As always you, as the buyer have the choice.

I’m not clear if the food is included or just available to buy ...

I’m also wary of a cash bar in this scenario.. I would be interested in the cost of a beer...
The food is included in the package. You get 3x full English breakfast and 3 x two course evening meal. You can choose beforehand which days you want to take these on, giving you the flexibility.

Last year out beer price was €6 for 500ml which was certainly less than the circuit. They are changing the official beer to Carlsberg, which will be slightly more.
I know it seems expensive but..
I have been to Lemans24 with 1st tickets for the last 4 years. It is the best most well organised, safest, cleanest site there. Yes it’s expensive relative to others, but the showers and toilets are cleaned ever hour or two, the food is excellent, there is a perimeter fence and security team 24hrs a day making sure only permitted people get in. The bar in the site is great and it’s close to the circuit. Free WiFi, a place to charge all your stuff, and the cars / people / atmosphere in the site tend to be pretty good too.
Honestly, don’t decry it until you’ve tried it. I simply won’t do the alternative at lemans any more - the difference in cost relative to the difference in experience is just not worth it. I think a lot of folks who have tried it go back year in year out. Their challenge seems to be the rising cost of having their enclosure which they do then have to pass on, and if you layer in extras like pre erected tents etc, allocated stand seating then the costs do rise, but as a package, I think it’s hard to beat.
Whatever happens, you must get to lemans24 this year. Both of the last 2 years have been utterly enthralling and I’m glad I witnessed it in person.

I’ll sort of agree.

I’ll be there at BSJ. The showers and toilets don’t bother me as I bring my own (unusual I know). I’ll also have a marquee, ice laden cool box ,
Generator and god knows what else with me. Basically I am the groups donkey.

£530, with grandstand access?

The cheapest I could find TC for two was £1276, inc food and GA ticket. With the crossing it is about the same as 1st tickets. Minus the panda of course wink

Wow, such negativity...

I have been to Le Mans with 1st Tickets/PH many times, having camped in the general areas on previous trips.

The marquee to hide from the weather, good food, secure camping, and a clean bathroom/shower is worth all of the amount charged. It makes the weekend so much more enjoyable not having to be concerned with these things.

Compared to the price to an F1 ticket - to me it is still great value.

I wish I was going this year, but I am being 'dragged' to the Maldives.... I know, I know...!! After the initial disappointment of Porsche going milk floating racing, it looks to be shaping up nicely with some interesting new entrants, and some great drivers taking part.

There's a lot of comments above about not needing such benefits. That's all well and good, and we go as a big group with a gazebo (that you can get out of the sun/rain), a kitchen w/fridge/freezer, a stereo and such and do fine in public camping. Often there's someone at our site, negating the security issues.

For those going on their own or with little ones, it tends to be a bit quieter, a bit safer and a bit easier to use the facilities. You get the convenience of the meals, somewhere to go if it's hideously wet or scorching and so forth. It's a good deal, it's just a question of whether it suits you! Can you imagine trying to take a 4yr old if it was just you and them in a tiny tent and it rained like 2015 or was as hot as last year? Particularly with the WiFi too.

I wasn't convinced personally of the savings in "do it yourself" at LM24 and hence we jumped at the idea of using the PH/1st Tickets "glamping" option when we started going in 2013 and we've continued with it since. Admittedly we take the easy route with pre-erected tents as well, but if you're all travelling in sports cars, I don't see the fun in having the worry of shoving a possibly damp tent in your car to head home plus all the other clobber - we've only had 1 sensible car in our group once in the time I've been going.

1st Tickets have said they can tailor your package as there are customers who purely take the option of them organising the crossing and providing a secure camping pitch though with the peace of mind you're in a secure site with clean loos and a large marquee/bar to use if you feel the need to watch some of the racing on a large TV. If you choose to have meals with them, the catering is to a good standard and in having generally pre-arranged meal times, it reduces waiting around (though I've not yet seen anyone turned away for being late BTW).

We go in a group of six which I organise, two of our group are young lads who are working but not on great money so we camp in bsj and do it all on the cheap.
I did once do the village on the curves with another group which was excellent, and hopefully when the lads can afford it will do it again. We always have a great time and that’s what it’s all about.

I did BSJ with a mate on the cheap last year and it was great. No problems at all, but that seemed to be because things had calmed down compared to my previous visit a few years before that. I've been there with SpeedChills a couple of times and you get the benefits of the security, the bar and food etc., but it still seems quite pricey for what it is. The convenience is quite nice though.

I can't make it this year sadly, so to replicate the experience I may have to pitch my tent in the garden, put the TV in there on an extension lead and just set fire to money every time I have a beer.
