Le Mans 24hr Race Thread
Discussion
Sat watching the build up through the airport app on Chromecast which is very good quality
It's Toyota's to lose but wonder how hollow it will feel with no hybrid rivals.
The GTE class will be good to watch. Looking forward to seeing the M8 running and Ford v Porsche.
I may open some of the lagers for tomorrow's birthday BBQ

As said in another Le Mans thread I hope they do! Really not a fan of the advantage they have been given!
As a Toyota fan I’ve still not gotten over their failure from 2016 however it does seem like an unfair advantage this year. Interested to see what the new regulations bring for 2020. skeeterm5 said:

The other LMP1 cars, which are not hybrids and are run by privateer teams, have a series of handicaps laid out in the rules.
They are not allowed to lap faster the Toyotas, and if they do, they are called in to the pits for a drive-through penalty..
Is this correct ? A colleague quoted this to me on Thursday and I assumed it was sloppy journalism from the Beeb . It can't be right is it ? The other LMP1 cars, which are not hybrids and are run by privateer teams, have a series of handicaps laid out in the rules.

Have been surprised to hear quite a few comments this year along the lines of "I hope Toyota fail...".
Yes, the rules have effectively left them with no real competitor in terms of performance, but that's not Toyota's fault. In fact their technical director evidently wants the opposite, i.e. rules that would allow the non-hybrid P1s to compete against the hybrids:

As perennial underdogs I'd like to see them not only win, but to set a record of some description (e.g. lap, distance, average speed) to silence the critics.
Fridge stocked with beer and junk food for the night session!

Yep, classic British internet schadenfreude on display. Surprised we still have to borrow the German's word for it. I'll leave everyone here to it and ensconce myself in front of the TV for the coming hours with Eurosport and Le Mans Radio. Can't wait for an event-filled race regardless and I hope you can all find ways to enjoy it just as much. Opening the champagne for Les Marseillais and the jet planes or helicopters.
