Not once did we get though without being searched (boot only). Totally unlike previous years when after registration you were wave through. We will be prepared for next year. I guess the security had a good party on Sunday night.
It really does seem to be down to which gate you use and who's on it at the time. For me the searches we WAY down on the previous coule of years - to the point I took a backpack in to the circuit Fri/Sat/Sun and it never actually got searched. Going in via the tram entrance there was someone who asked to look but the zip got stuck and he hand-waved to say "don't worry, just carry on". Going in via MB for the start of the race there was someone there, but he just gave it a heft and said it was fine.Hell, never mind bags the only time they checked our tickets out at Arnage in the night was when we were LEAVING!
Went in via the MB site on Saturday morning dragging a cooler with about 100 beers (and 3 bottles of champagne in the bottom) to no issue. Wasn't even asked to open it. We drank the beers at the bottom of the start/finish and cleared up in to a black bag afterwards.
Beer is a bit much but I concur, the queues are going to stop them doing anything.

Beer and food was steeply priced, but that's pretty much the norm for any event, albeit a little more at Le Mans than some. Anyway, I made up for it with a wine stop at Majestic, Calais on the way home.
My biggest complaint was that many food outlets had run out of food by mid afternoon each day (or we were just unlucky). It is annoying to have to search around for a place that actually had something to eat. The management must be total fools to not stock what was obviously going to be needed.
Our campsite was ace and the rest of the weekend so good that none of my complaints are really an issue to me; just a bit silly on their part.

One of our favourite places to grab a bite is the 'everything covered in cheese' stand behind the Ford Chicane grandstand. I was waiting to grab something on Saturday morning and did some very rough fag-packet calculations (I do stress the roughness of this).
Each person on average spends around €18 per order. In each line (there are generally four lines), over a 10 minute period, 7 people are served. So that's 42 customers per hour or €756 per hour per line or €3,024 in total across all four lines per hour.
This equates to €72,576 per day so assuming they are open from Thursday onwards, that's getting on for €0.3m turnover!!....for stand selling cheese toasties.

I thought it was €1 cheaper than last year? So only a massive piss take instead of a mega piss take
Silverstone is usually less than a fiver
Le Mans entry ticket: 73.80Euro / £64.85Silverstone is usually less than a fiver

The tickets are fairly cheap so I guess they make their money in other ways
Silverstone GP entry ticket: £199.00 (3-day weekend ticket, so similar access to Le Mans ticket)
Le Mans beer (assuming you take your cup back): 8Euro / £7.03
Silverstone beer: say £4.50
So Silverstone's cheaper - if you drink more than 19 site-bought beers over the weekend.

...of which no doubt the ACO takes €0.28m
Don't know about the amount but I think that's how to all works. All the stall, stores and stands were using the same till system which would have been provided to them by ACO who bank the money and then pay the concession holders what is effectively a commission on sales.
It's highly probable that all the food and drink was also provided to the concession holders and monitored to avoid cash sales going unrecorded.
Maybe it's me being used to London prices, but I don't think they're that bad. You want a cold beer that you haven't had to carry around and you know you're a captive market...It may also help to serve as some kind of limiter on how much people are drinking around the track. I also thought the food (by which i mean frites, as i seemed to live off of them) was quite reasonably priced at €4 for a large portion.

£4.50 for a pint during the silverstone GP?
Assuming Printertosh's "under a fiver" claim is correct.I know I often think the beer is more reasonable than the price of food at Silverstone, although they do a great burger half way down the back of the old pits
