After 13 straight years track-side camping we are looking for an alternative. Did anyone camp at The Bounty this year and if so what are your thoughts good and bad.

Also, recommendation for anywhere else please.

I used a small private site in the forest off the Mulsanne straight. Loved it.
Noticed other sites in that area.

Good points were location and quietness in terms of people on the site

Bad points were road noise and basic facilities and the fact that I had to enlist help just to translate everything into French (made a new friend out of it though)

I just wanted away from the main sites. If you want more details drop me a pm

The Club Arnage guide for 2013 had details of the nearby off-track camp sites.

Download it from here http://clubarnage.com/index2018.html click "download the guide" then select the year you want.

I wont say which site I used (off track campers get a little protective of their oases of calm) but it was one where I could walk to the local boulangerie for my morning baguettes and the security didn't bugger off at 15.01 on Sunday.

What you will like about Le Bounty:
  • decent loos
  • decent showers
  • no need to worry about cooking
  • minibus to/from circuit & tram stop
  • Quieter than on-circuit (Noisy Frogs though!)
What you might not like:
  • More expensive than on-circuit
  • Can't just wander to/from the track when you feel like it
  • Less atmosphere than on-circuit

Not to mention:
  • Real beer on tap (stocked bar at not-silly prices)
  • Television to watch the race (or footie after the event)
  • Fairly decent bunch of people on site
  • No security issues
  • Usually, no Mellow Yellow to steal your beer!! hehe

Although to be fair, the bogs and showers on some on-site camps are very good these days, cleaned every 3 or 4 hours (even during the night!)

Gone are the days when you needed to carry your own bog roll around all week.
