Just come back and we where talking about all the little camp sites

Just after a bit of info for when we book it in 2020

Did you camp - Where
Did you glamp
Did you stay in the piston heads camp
or posh it up in a local hotel

How much was it?

and how far did you have to walk to the paddock?

Was there long queues for the toilets and shower?

Would you stay there next year?

Hope this thread doesn't upset Garlick?

I doubt it as he left PH years ago.

We camped on the Maison Blanche site.

Pro:

Close to the Track
Short walk to the pit straight (5mins?)
Clean toilets and showers
Plenty of classic cars also camping on site.
No bag check between campsite and trackside.

Con:

Close to the Track
Slightly annoying entry by car (temporary chicane etc)
Worse toilet/shower to camper ratio than our usual 24hrs campsite (Epinettes)
Quite a large number of spectators wandering through the site looking at the classic cars.

First Tickets compound on Bleu Nord.

It’s was fine; clean facilities, few/queues, close to circuit.

Stayed in a B&B in the old town - took the tram in. Worked well, would do it that way again.

Lycian Events Village on the Curves (inside track at start of Porsche curves)

breakfasts/evening meal or bbq (Sunday roast for main race), excellent beer at under £5 a pint and trackside viewing 40 metres or so from bar/food, free tea and coffee all day. Bar and 3 TVs etc in marquee still open/serving when got back at 5.30am during 24)

facilities were being cleaned through the night and day (no queues early, maybe 3 people in q for 5 or 6 showers most I saw)

less than 1 mins walk to Porsche curves banking (got up and saw leading 7 GT40s flying through at start of Grid 4 just after 4.30am last Sunday - all with discs glowing red and you could hear the hum/roar from pits and all way around circuit)

back of BSJ - fine if driving into circuit (car did get dusty) but needed shuttle buses for rest of group to get dropped off at Technopark or Tramstop/arena gate (ring them for return within certain times).

Bit of noise from BSJ but pretty excellent all round (at least 10plus GT2/GT3/GT3RSs plus Astons, numerous other Porsches and some great old ones, roller and TVRs at 24 event)

BSJ

Never again, no food or catering within the site, long queues for showers and very dusty.

Not impressed by my visit to the event, and wont be going again, ticketing info was woeful as was the info at the venue, no-one selling programmes all the classes seemsed to be on track at the same times that meant if you anted to go and eat etc you had to go at similarly odd times to see stuff you hadn't seen

We did bleu with speed chill, excellent, onsite catering and bar all reasonably priced, and a packed lunch for the circuit if you fancied it, the only thing we agreed we would do differently was to have grandstand tickets, it was piggin hot in the sun!
Fantastic event, particularly watching the cars getting onto the grid after dark, very evocative.

I have no commercial connection or motive with this post!! .....

The Rerto Camp Site at Avoise - approx. 30 minutes and a fantastic drive through beautiful countryside South-West of the circuit. Individual retro caravans and hedged bays for privacy / parking your car.... The retro feel compliments the Le Mans Classic theme. Secluded , security barrier and by the river in a charming France Village! .... Classic Cars & Exotic Performance Cars buzzing around all over, staying at other B&B' and 'Galmping' sites at places like Chateau Dobert just up the road. Restuarenat and Bar in Avoise with large car park where numerous cars / clubs would congregate and chat and do what we do when we are not watching the racing! Combined with the Classic event, it makes for several days of heaven on Earth!

HIghly recommended and I think hard to better!

Plus 1 for this option, wouldn't camp again.

Camped at Bleu Nord. Close to the pit straight and grandstands. Showers and toilets were limited, but had hot water and were quite clean. Friendly and quiet neighbours and not much track noise. Would do it again.

Have previously camped on Beausejour. Have not encountered any real horror stories, but it is a long walk to the grandsatands on the pit straight, especially when the temperature is >30 degrees.

Both of the above are easy to get out of to escape to Arnage village for dinner and given the quality of catering inside the track, that is Important!

You forgot to mention the excellent catering we had!! wink and beverage supplies....

£399 for GE, paddocks, Dover-Calais ferry pp for 2 in a car, plus shuttle bus service, chargers etc - food packages about £100 extra or so for 4 days with no need for pre-booked slots and could buy food on a meal by meal basis and other stuff and lunches etc (think for main event you can do reasonable bookings for Arnage/Indi night sessions). Great drinking reasonably priced cold beers (£18 for 2 litre jug next to track) especially as the new? set up for classic seemed to have bigger gaps between grids

Thats actually pretty reasonable really.

I was amazed at some of what was there, but not surprised.

Totally messed up my visit really, but most of it because of the insane heat. Doubt I will be back, but nice to know there are decent options

Stayed at the Ibis in town. Got the tram in every day and, apart from the Saturday morning when it was rammed*, worked well all weekend. Could either eat in or locally and as quick to get into town as get to the circuit.

Hotel, tribune seats and Le Mans; doesn't get any better!

*Our fault because after a leisurely breakfast it was mid morning before we went in.

Ditto. Ibis centre and used the tram daily. Room rate was 265 euros per night per room. Plus 10 bucks for breakfast and another 10 for underground parking. The tram was
a bit of an ordeal as it was so hot and had no aircon! But otherwise all perfect. Tribune seats and paddock entry all worked well. Great weekend.

265 for an Ibis is fairly ridiculous to be honest,

I must be cheap

No Chunder you are dead right. The standard room rate is 78 Euros a night at the Ibis Centre Le Mans. It goes up by nearly four times for the Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and drops back to 78 bucks on the Sunday. It is a bit of a joke but they have us over a barrel. I was cured of camping a long time ago in the boy scouts!

Private camping with a big marquee/cold beers from bar and a bit of trackside viewing

Hospitality car club marquee for free (shade and water) and infield parking

stand tickets for shade/rain protection and getting group back together

and it was still way very hot but bearable
