HI all, I'm in the very early stages of planning a road trip in the US in the summer of 2020. The idea (at this stage) is to follow the Horatio Jackson route or the Lincoln Highway route from west to east, in my NG Henley kit car.

One big area that I know nothing about is the process of taking a vehicle to/from the US for a trip like this. I can find lots of stuff online about exporting and importing cars to/from the US, but unsurprisingly no one seems to specialise in what is basically a holiday trip. I've starting talking to various shippers and the freight costs are pretty much what I expected, but there seem to be lots of port & handling charges, at both ends which are adding up to a lot of extra money.

So my question is, does anyone have any first hand experience of shipping a car to/from the US for a trip, or are there any specialist firms out there that I should be talking to.

Many thanks

Paul

Insurance is going to be the tricky bit.

I'm expecting it to be a challenge. I'm trying to contact other people who have done a similar thing. A bunch of European cars went over to do the Lincoln Highway in 2013.

Insurance as noted is going to be your problem - its slightly easier in a group but most brokers can't help (even US owned parents of UK specialists)

Try to track down pub to pub tvr chap who managed it via a broker in Florida (as I recall)
