Get the boat to Normandy, mate. Eurotunnel is massively out of range for LM.

In an ideal world I would, the cost puts me off, and the crossing times, have done St Malo and Caen routes in the past, maybe I should do the sums again, too late for next year though

Never understand why you feel the need to speed just because it's France and you are going to a car race. I've always found 130km/h (110 in the rain) to be plenty fast enough.

I wouldn't drive at excessive speeds here for long periods, why is France different?

Definitely ferry for me.. chance for a meal and you get to feel like you're travelling. The train is a rank experience...though I use it when time is short but its not the same, nowhere near as good

I’ve just re-read what I wrote and cannot for the life of me find anything about myself wanting to break the speed limit? Not to mention that speeding through Rouen is just not possible and a 4 hour drive from Calais to Le Mans would suggest obeying the speed limits.

Have a looky at Newhaven to Dieppe on DFDS. You just clip Rouen, one toll and just over 2 hours to LM, if I remember correctly.

Because you mention Gendarmerie and 'scam cameras'. Why would you attract the attention of either if you weren't speeding?

Neither have ever bothered me, except for a local plod wanting to look at my Cerbera when we were stopped for a coffee break.

just had a look at eurotunnel prices and out tueesday 81 back sunday 74, so £150 return. i love the drive down and back it is part of the whole event. Plus i live in Kent so easier

I've just re-re-read what I wrote, I still can't see where I wrote that I want to break the speed limit and/or want to speed????

Is this more about me slating the use of the Chunnel for LM?

i like the run down from the tunnel, plenty of other nice cars to see and as long as you are careful you avoid tickets, always love the run down but the run back on sunday can be a bit more of a problem due tp traffic near rouen and rather to many french police. Each to their own but prefer to do the mileage on french roads rather than uk ones as i do enough mileage on uk ones the rest of the year

I believe you do the overnight from Portsmouth? I tried to push the same for LM 2020 but I was voted down. Shame, I've done that boat to St Malo and Poole to Cherbourg, it's a good crack, but democracy rules...lolz

We go Pompey - Caen. Couple of beers, good night's sleep, couple of hours next morning and we are there.

2 hour drive to Plymouth, few beers and a meal on board, breakfast on board before docking mid morning and a 4-5 hour drive down to LM.
I do the Saturday/ Sunday crossing and get down mid afternoon on the Sunday. Normally on of the first on site!
