Being 2020 is a Euro's year and the fact England are playing on the Friday I wonder if anyone knows if the French may put on a big screen in town to show the football in the Square?

If not any recommended bars in town for Sport?

For 8 years I came down with a crowd who didn't want to do the drivers parade and came prepared with a TV so would watch the footie in camp but now we want to head into Le Mans as we did last year and soak up the atmosphere and hopefully football with a mixed bag of EU boys on tour!!

There's plenty of sports bars in Le Mans that I’m sure will have it in but don’t England play on Sunday 14th?

England v Scotland Euro 96 was shown at LM24.

I think it was during the race.

Reminds me of the last Euros (or maybe World Cup?), while at LM.
Large screens in the campsite had games on when there was no action on track - instead of the usual qualifying reruns.

There might have been some games on the track screens, I can't remember.

Not usually bothered with football, but it was a good atmosphere watching the games at Le Mans, surrounding by a lot of the nationalities that were playing.

I do remember a year when the Euros were on and a load of football supporters were transported to Le Mans to continue their weekend....not sure why they found throwing beer bottles onto the track from the Tetre Rouge Bar, but they did! The consequence was the race the stopped and the riot police sent to give them a real good kicking....the police were supported by the racing crowd and huge cheers

I’ve never understood the football mentality and never will, must be the petrol running in my veins

I'll need to check the dates as our group had discussed the England KO time and expected this to be about 6pm on Sunday night. Which would mean leaving the race before the end to get the Bolougne for KO. A Friday KO would be much better!!

England v Croatia, Sunday 14th June, KO 2pm local time, so 3pm in France, race ends 4pm I think.

When was this then, been going since 92 & cannot remember the race ever being stopped. Also when any football finals had been on, it has always been a jovial atmosphere. Hindy commentating on the England-Denmark game being a particular highlight.

Histories of the race, annual highlights videos etc all seem to have missed this event

Something like that happened at one of the bike events in that era, hence the local law that gives big fines for invading the track, and the ban on bottles in the circuit. There used to be posters for this law, but I don't think I've seen one for 15 years, but security occasionally get nasty about bottles.

The main issue was at the 24hr bar, not in the circuit. The cars were held at the beginning of Tetre Rouge rather than circuit closure for a short period to sweep glass away....sadly can’t remember year but I believe it was after a Newcastle United match in Paris but don’t hold me to that! Long time ago

I remember last time they had the euros, drove down to catch the ferry at Newhaven, car all stickerd up for LM, to be met by a load of bemused plod in riot gear who’d obviously been instructed by some bright young Police superintendent to stop, search and question each passenger as to the purpose of there journey. Well it certainly wasn’t to watch the effing football that’s for sure !

That's annoying! furious That game was scheduled for 8pm (9pm french time) which would have been perfect to finish the weekend.
Bloody TV companies have moved it so our Group D game is now before both of the Group C games. Wish they'd stick to the alphabet!!! mad

I hate football and do all I can to avoid it.

However, I will admit in the village we stay, it does add some atmosphere if France are playing during a big tournament. It’s a shame France aren’t playing Friday or Sunday evening as it would have made the evening and usual lock-in a bit more animated with the locals.

Other than that, race weekend as normal.

I watch one live game a year just for the spectacle. No way would I look at it during an event like Le Mans, I don't get that myself.

I guess it was 2 yrs ago they had the big screen in the village, all these people glued to it. Im lost...as a spectacle it doesn't even come close to being anything like as good as trackside at Le Mans

Just to add a motorsport event people might be interested in watching:
F1 Canadian Grand Prix
Sunday 14th June
Start: 19.10 (French time)
This should be available for free on Canal+ (French) and RTL (German) on the same satellite as the free German Eurosport that shows Le Mans 24hrs.
Or the Stella Bar at Tertre Rouge will probably be showing it too beer
