Mon eve: trip to the supermarket for supplies- mainly alchol and cigarettes, with some token breakfasts I'll be too hungover to consider eating.

The lads over excitement with his 2nd trip - enjoyable. Pretending to his Mother that I will miss her is by far the hardest task at this point.
Have you sharpened your shovel, or is that still on the to-do-list? wink

Tuesday:
Day of culture! Normally a drive out somewhere, Hotel de France is a favourite and a good day to go.

Today, the main group, including me, would all be meeting up at this time (between 6-7am) over near Heathrow and then head down to Newhaven for the morning ferry to Dieppe.

The previous Sunday would see the Dutch part of our group secure our usual plots at Tertre Rouge.

Normally we'd be arriving today, although this year we'd planned on arriving early doors on Wednesday - something to do with being freelance and earning money... We'd be listening to the RLM podcasts on the way down... possibly sponsored by Travel Destinations (!!!) wink

Quick camp set up, grab some food somewhere easy - possibly Buffalo Grill or similar - because it's easy and quick and a shop, for the essentials for BBQs the rest of the week and obligatory cases of beer + breakfast - although we used to grab some fresh stuff in the morning but the little place we used to use in Arnage closed last year... frown after changing hands and the new owners were struggling to work out that Le Mans week is probably their busiest week of the year and they might need to get the ovens on (all of them!!) a bit earlier than usual!!! Cue brits buying up all their croissants and pain au chocs ahead of locals.... There are a couple of other places in Arnage which we frequented last year. Tip top, but not the same.

Right now we'd be pulling on to Houx. Having done the overnight Portsmouth to Caen.

And 20 minutes later the kettle would be on and breakfast on the go.

Tue Morning: last day at work, though not a full day. Trying to tie up loose ends without losing my mind on what is about to happen. Hitting another bout of "no it can't be this good, I'm probably going to have a crap time, and it will rain..."and...and...and....as the excitement overload plays games with my head.
I've probably started my first pack of cigarettes as the party mood begins.

But regardless of all that, the air conditioned bog at Mulsanne will be there ready and waiting for the first few days of stored up steak and chips biggrin

Usually at this time i would be heading south from the eurotunnel terminal heading for Rouen, looking forward to arriving on Tertre Rouge in the afternoon and meeting the usual mob on the campsite, this year it would have been in opulent comfort in the Daimler. However today i will be heading in the opposite direction north of London to sit in the garden with my regular travelling companion to start planning for September.

I was building up to that, you're spoiling the surprise! It hasn't even been consummated at this point

Having spent last night at the Premier Inn at Ashford we'd have a nice full English breakfast before heading to The Drum Inn at Stanford for the first official beer of the trip. The group meet here for a couple of beers before heading to Folkstone and buying the better halfs duty free gifts. Usually about 10 minutes too late we follow the signs To France, make way though customs and before realising it one of us is in the disabled row and disappears out of sight for a few minutes - usually me.

Right now, I should be enjoying a pint of Fosters Extra Cold and a Café Crème cigar while viewing what stickers people have opted for this year.

I'd be getting very very excited. About now I'd usually be in and out of the garage with bits an bobs that needed to go in the car ready for the off at 4:15am Thursday. In between I'd be on PH reading about people who have already set off/ arrived and viewing the latest 'Stickered up for Le Mans' posts and obviously the weather thread.

Feeling sad frown

Waiting for my merguez order to arrive tomorrow

Thankfully I'll be close to 3 nice clean toilets with plenty of nice soft toilet paper, no need for socks (and no I haven't been stock piling. OK maybe merguez, I have 9 x packs of 6 arriving as they were 3 for 2!)

Thanks for the reminder. I'll have to dig out that thread and have a rad, genius!

Tue afternoon:
Now its getting frantic. My nephew and an old school friend arrive by train having flown in from the Isle of Man. I collect them from the station about 40 mins away.

Tue afternoon:

We would have arrived at TR and after cracking open some beers, saying hello to those we haven’t seen since LM 2019, we would then crack on and get our tents etc up. Also, a few of us would shoot off to Carrefour and do a quick shop for the nights red sausage! However, some of us would have already slammed the TR bogs...big style.

Tue eve: frantic car loading, knowing I won't sleep tonight. Early start tomorrow.

Decided tonight finish a motorbike that broke 2 years ago. 1 mile into the journey realised it wasn't taxed. Helpfully it needs an mot...why isn't it exempt? Ffs. Dragged another one out and rode to a village for a can of Monster and some fags. Not the same but not a bad evening after 5 straight days of some tedious DIY / working from home
