Damage the car in a Friday FP4 or hyperpole and you REALLY aren't going to make many friends in the pit crew are you!
doing that and you are not making friends anyway
True, but normally you'd be crashing on Thursday giving the mechanics Thurs. night/Friday day to fix the car before a good nights sleep Friday night, ahead of being awake for 48hrs.

Crash the car on Friday and your mechanics who have been up since Friday morning are then working through Friday night to fix the car, then going straight in to the race with little or no sleep, so having already been up for 24hrs without sleep before starting the 48hrs without sleep of the race.
Well, they knew what they signed up for hehe

I'd imagine part of the attraction of working for an endurance team is the challenge presented by potentially working longs hours to make sure your car makes it to the finish.

A good friend of mine ran the Lotus team and they had a very busy season with a rather overheating engine including big blow up on Wednesay eveing before setting a time in quali and a driver who had to set some night driving times... that was an intense 24 hours... the engine packaging was not the easiest on the Evora he said with a few expletives

as an aside in their second car which was with paying drivers.... they had one stint each at the start just to make sure everone had a turn.... it did retire with some bizarre wheel problem...

I remember one year getting a lift back to our camp site on a golf buggy from a lotus Mechanic who was escaping the garage after the last Lotus went out at around 9 Saturday evening because Hugh Chamberlain was throwing spanner’s around smile

There's always some idiot who crashes during the Saturday morning warm-up so I guess it's no different!

Hugh Chamberlain would have been 1990's, Esprit and Elise GT1? The Evora was 2011. It was a late development and should have really had a year before racing, instead it went out barely developed and in true Lotus style ran out of money and never came back.

Not quite as simple... the project was purchased by a private team under certain conditions of speed and reliability. Car was in the main built in Italy by the same company that worked for Audi. When neither speed nor reliability could be achived by Cosworth and Lotus and they didn't wan't to spend the money... (Lotus was in the throes of Bahar IFAIR), the cars went cack to Lotus and I think they ended up in the US. And this is from the man who ran the team

Thanks.

I met Johnny Mowlem a few years ago and asked him about the Evora. He seemed to have a real soft spot for it and thought it had genuine potential with a little more development time (& £££ obvs)

I think the team manager's memories about JM were not that flattering

There was a Lotus LMP2 that ran for a couple of years. Lots of legal wranglings are detailed on the wikipedia page...
