2021 - Don't get too excited
Discussion
Having mentioned a few days ago that there were 400,000 more current cases the figure is now approaching 500,000 and by the weekend we will have joined the UK in the 100,000 dead club. Things are pretty static here in the Sarthe though. But - would you be considering travelling to Le Mans in ten weeks time?

Yes. Having had both vaccine jabs by then, I would have absolutely no doubt about travelling. The key is common sense though. Crowds at the circuit? Can't see it. But doing what we did last year and having a campsite near St Saturnin virtually to ourselves? Yes!The deal breaker for me is whether the UK are going to impose all sorts of tests and quarantine on return.

That's also assuming that you can just rock up in Le Mans The deal breaker for me is whether the UK are going to impose all sorts of tests and quarantine on return.

Currently you need tests and 7 day isolation on arrival
I have seen a few mentions of vaccines here.
Please remember that a vaccine will not stop you catching the virus, it can still enter your body.
In most people the antibodies created by the vaccine will stop it making you very unwell.
You may still feel a little unwell and you MIGHT be shedding the virus and passing it on to others.
Assuming the vaccines are 90% effective that means 10% who catch the virus can still become very unwell or worse!
Am I, who has had both shots, willing to travel to a country that has very high rates at the moment, NO!
Would I risk catching the virus and spreading it to those who have not been vaccinated or the 10%, NO.
Not yet! I would want the country I am visiting to be in control and have had a high % of their population vaccinated.

Except you are forgetting that the vaccine is also effective against the spread and the efficacy is 95%. Couple that with social distancing and common sense and you continue to hide behind your sofa mate.
The survival rate is also 99.8% and the average age of fatalities is 83.
I'll take my chances.

We mitigate risk throughout our lives and Covid is just another risk to mitigate. As we know about it we can increase the mitigation and then take our chances. Life is for living and if you haven’t risked you haven’t lived.....see you there Tyresmoke and Lowdrag....and anybody else that’s going
No irony for me. Personal judgement call. For me if allowed without undue quarantine in/out. If spectating/camping proposals have the right balance of caution and flexibility, then I will make every effort to attend given I will have had both jabs. Not for everybody though and no one is right or wrong.
